    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Manchester United's first shot of the game came in the 34th minute; their longest wait from the start of a Premier League game for their first attempt since their previous game at Anfield in January 2020 (40th minute).

Megs! Anthony Martial on Trent Alexander-Arnold, that was nice and he scoots over the halfway line but is stopped by a fair, but robust tackle from Fabinho.

Liverpool then get the ball into the United area but again, it's a bit too intricate and a lay-off is swallowed up.

Bruno Fernandes' free kick was the right height, it was going below the bar, it does start goal bound and because it starts like that it moves away about a yard shy of the post. Good effort but still no goal.

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

It's getting raw, loose. Marcus Rashford now stretches the Liverpool defence again with his pace, he and Paul Pogba can't sort out a shot on goal between them and a very late flag goes up in any case.

    Goal before half-time?

It is Bruno Fernandes - and it's very nearly 1-0! What a strike, swerve, dip, over the wall and heading into the top corner until late fade takes it a yard wide.

Liverpool then instantly threaten, Mo Salah down the left, Roberto Firmino scuffing one straight at David de Gea.

Liverpool's weakness is at the back, so Ole's tactics of trying to soak up constant pressure and hope to get lucky is unlikely to work. For goodness sake man go for them !!

Everyone was complaining about Lindelof being selected ahead of Bailly when it was Maguire we should have been worried about. He needs to wake up fast.

Luke Shaw now pops up in the centre of midfield and he's tripped by Xherdan Shaqiri, the Swiss goes into the book and it's a free-kick in a dangerous area.

Fred and Bruno Fernandes are over the ball. Fred fooling nobody.

Luke Shaw clips in a deep free-kick, Harry Maguire gets in as Trent Alexander-Arnold misses another header but he's rather rescued by the offside flag.

Half an hour in, I wouldn't say it's been dull but I, and the millions watching globally, could probably do with a goal.

Manchester United release the shackles a touch and Bruno Fernandes could shoot from range. He tries to thread in a pass instead and it's stopped by Fabinho.

Still the pressure builds. Harry Maguire plays a horrorshow of a ball across his own area, Gini Wijnaldum has a shot blocked and then Xherdan Shaqiri curls over from about 25 yards. Maguire got away with one there.

Man United just need to stay alive at the moment, that's what Liverpool look for, those lapses in concentration. Quick corners, quick goal kicks.

Relentless from the Reds. Sadio Mane is in behind, he finds Roberto Firmino, who cuts inside and shoots. It's blocked, up and out to the third of the trident, and Mo Salah blazes his volley well over.

It's early days but Xherdan Shaqiri is proving a point to Jurgen Klopp. He's barely been used this season but he's been the game's best player so far.

Again he picks the ball up in space just outside the area and this time does shoot, taking a deflection on its way wide.

Matt Dawson: United's attack yet to really click so far, passing just isn't tight enough... Hoping for more from the McFred partnership

Lots of United players too casual in possession so far especially Rashford and Martial. They need to hold the ball up better.

Liverpool with a long spell of probing just outside the United area, Thiago and Xherdan Shaqiri to the fore, but Mo Salah can't dig out a shot and the men in grey can clear.

Manchester United then threaten in behind, Marcus Rashford has the pace to dart in but he's penalised for a pull on the recovering Andrew Robertson.

Best moment yet! Xherdan Shaqiri unlocks Manchester United with a beauty of a pass into the area, Sadio Mane rolls his defender and sets it back to Roberto Firmino.

He's got Andrew Robertson screaming up on the overlaop but ignores him and shoots, firing wide with his left foot.

Should have played the full-back in?
