West Brom's Robert Snodgrass: "I don't think anyone is happy. No excuses

"If you're going to get out of the relegation zone, we can't have errors, as they are clinical in the final third. We need to dust ourselves down and get ready for another game on Saturday.

"We're not blaming any decision. It's a difficult one to take. Once you look back at it, it was the delay in the flag going up - that was a hard decision. That's just one of the things that went wrong.

"Whatever happens we are sticking together but we need to put in a far better performance come Saturday.

"I'm here for the fight. We did everything we possibly could and I think if you look back at this, as a team, will realise that isn't good enough. Tonight we're not going to try and blame everyone else. We're going to take it on the chin and dust ourselves down.

"No hiding place in the Premier League, these top boys punish you."

Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to BBC Sport: “They are a really dangerous team when they are in front. They are a team that presses and is good in transition but we did a lot of things right.

“There were phases of play we completely dominated and we looked comfortable and scored some good goals because it is complicated to win here.

“We were much better building up and did not put ourselves in trouble. We were cleaner and more effective and when we had to defend deeper we looked comfortable.

"We conceded from a set-piece but I really like the character of the team. To go 1-0 down after what happened a few days ago, the reaction, the confidence, the way they played, it was positive.

“They are a team that is good at building the game really well inside but we recognised the triggers to press."

On Arsenal’s recent run: "Winning a football game brings confidence. We were doing things right but losing games. It is a lot of things."

On Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe: "They were both magnificent again today. They need to keep going - they have a lot of things to learn and improve but they are lucky they have senior players who are giving them advice and pushing them."

Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BT Sport: "I think we were good from the start. We conceded a goal from a corner but responded straight away. We were good on the ball. We got out of trouble and made some big chances. Our pressing was brilliant. We were good in the break. It was a strong performance."

On Nicolas Pepe: "He was really good again. He created big moments. He deserved his chance today and he took it."

On Bukayo Saka: "He has been very consistent. He has played in different positions and adapted. He is assisting players. It was another strong performance today."

On the result: "It is tough to win here. They are strong and have been in form. It showed a lot of intelligent and resilience from the team in the way they managed the game.

"We have still a lot to do. We have to improve, be humble and train good for the next game."

Phil Foden made his 100th appearance for Manchester City in all competitions, scoring 24 and assisting 17 since his debut for the club in November 2017.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has scored seven Premier League goals this season - his best ever scoring campaign in the top five European Leagues.

Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo scored and assisted in a single game in the big five European Leagues for the first time since April 2016 for Valencia vs Eibar in La Liga.

Riyad Mahrez has been directly involved in nine goals in eight Premier League games vs West Brom (5 goals, 4 assists) - only against Watford (10) has he registered more goal involvements in the competition.

Raheem Sterling has been directly involved in six goals in his last four Premier League meetings with West Brom (2 goals, 4 assists) and both scored and assisted in the same top-flight game for the first time since November 2018 v West Ham.

Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to MOTD "It was a good performance, good results in the game.

"We tried to put the players in the best condition, be humble enough and concentrate enough to do what we have to do and respect our opponents.

"We are at the end fighting because football is difficult. Everyone is solid and in this situation and this month we have the commitment and it's so good.

"The way we play, everyone is involved in the attack and the play and create chances and try to score chances - it doesn't matter, it is important to arrive in the box and create chances.

"One or two days off and then prepare for Sheffield United. It's the only way I know to be a manager - just think about Sheffield."

Robert Snodgrass says he can't get his head around City's second goal, where the flag went up for offside before Joao Cancelo scored.

He says playing on after an offside is going to end in someone getting injured.

Arsenal

Arsenal defender Cedric Soares: "Today we started on the front foot and it was completely different [to the FA Cup defeat against Southampton].

"We controlled the game much more even though we know Southampton have great quality and they counter well.

"It was a better performance. It is a great run, the team is doing well and everyone that comes in is helping.

"It is small margins. The confidence of the players is growing. We are working hard in training and then we are doing it in games, so the process is more natural.

"Everyone is fighting for their place and helping the team and this is the Arsenal way."

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola, on Ilkay Gunodgan: "Gundo has this sense - after this, he is able to take a touch, slow down, take a second to compose and finish. We are delighted with what he is doing. The first season he was ACL and we miss him a lot, since then his attitude and personality is outstanding."

Southampton

More from Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhuttl: "It was a deserved win for Arsenal today. We made the goals too easy for them and could not score often enough."

On Southampton’s goal and performance: “It looked good but also in the beginning we have not been good enough to defend in some moments. The levels were not perfect. We were not good enough today.

“We know about our behaviours [in terms of the performance] and we did not show them in the moment and we will do it internally [talk about it]."

On injuries: "It is not fun at the moment. We are doing everything we can to bring them back but they need time. Not really enjoyable at the moment with so many injured players."

Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was easy to score against us today. We didn't close the gaps between centre-back and full-back. Such an opponent can kill you,. That is why we didn't deserve anything today.

"The defensive quality of our team was not as good as Saturday.

"We manage to play through some good moments, especially in the first half. When you are 2-0 up it is easier. We had moments to score. We tried the best we could today but it was not enough."

On taking off Danny Ings: "The last thing I want to do is risk another injury. We are running out of players. It is difficult for players to step in. I have to pay attention of those who invest a lot."

West Brom’s Sam Allardyce is the first manager since Chris Ramsey at QPR in March 2015 to lose his first four home Premier League games in charge of a club.

The Baggies have lost five Premier League home games in a row for the first time since December 2004 (another run of 5).

Manchester City

Manchester City goalscorer Ilkay Gundogan: "I feel proud to wear [Colin Bell's] number and I try to represent it as good as possible, to give him the tribute.

"There's not really a secret [to Gundogan scoring]. I'm just in the right spaces at the right moment. I'm in a bit more of an offensive role, if I get the chance close to the box I try to make the right decisions - I just tried to do my best.

"[Joao Cancelo] has ability to offer something a little bit of a different in the role. He gets a lot of touches and he has a quality. I knew this, that's why I made the run and the ball was perfect. He's doing well, especially the last few weeks. We need this rhythm to maintain this level and we're going to get even more moments

"We will try our best, we had a few plays in the last couple of weeks in a few different conditions, struggling with injuries, all the players are getting more and more ready. obviously Kevin [De Bruyne] is a big miss for us but we have players who will get more game time and we need everyone because everyone gives us a different quality we need to keep going."
