    Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Barcelona

What a talent Barcelona midfielder Pedri is. He's already represented Spain at Under-21 level and it surely won't be long before he is called-up to the senior squad by Luis Enrique.

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:52 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2021

    Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Barcelona

A very enjoyable first half at the magnificent (but empty, obviously) San Mames.

Athletic Bilbao made the perfect start to Marcelino's spell in charge as they scored in the third minute through Inaki Williams, but Barcelona have quickly hit back and they lead at the break after goals from Pedri and Lionel Messi.

    Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Barcelona

Jack Tanner: This seems already more exciting than most of the games under Gary Garitano.

This is Marcelino's first game as Athletic Bilbao boss after he replaced Gaizka Garitano, who was sacked only hours after beating Elche 1-0 on Sunday.

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 40 mins

    Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Barcelona

Antoine Griezmann with a low, powerful strike but Unai Simon, who may be at fault for both Barcelona goals, dives low to his left to keep it out.

  6. Kean scores first goal of Pochettino's reignpublished at 20:41 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2021

    St Etienne 1-1 PSG

Over in France, Mauricio Pochettino's start to his reign as new Paris St-Germain coach began badly when Romain Hamouma gave St Etienne the lead in the Ligue 1 match.

However, the French champions were level three minutes later thanks to Moise Kean's turn and shot from close range.

  7. goal

GOAL - Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Barcelonapublished at 38 mins

    Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

A lovely link-up between Lionel Messi and Pedri.

Messi plays the ball into the feet of Pedri and continues his run. Pedri, with two home defenders around him, then rolls a backheel back into the path of the advancing Messi and the Argentine is able to side-foot the ball into the net with Unai Simon again out of position.

  8. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Barcelona

Ousmane Dembele has looked very lively for Barcelona. He picks the ball up on the right corner of the penalty area, shifts it inside on to his left foot and strikes at goal.

Unai Simon is behind the shot and gathers it at the second attempt. A thoroughly enjoyable 35 minutes in this one so far.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 32 mins

    Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Barcelona

Athletic are forced into a swap as left-back Yuri Berchiche's hamstring pings. He shakes his head in disappointment instantly as he knows he has done himself some harm. He trudges off, with Mikel Balenziaga coming on.

  10. goal

GOAL - Milan 1-1 Juventuspublished at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2021

    Davide Calabria (41 mins)

What a fabulous equaliser from Milan but it began in controversial circumstances after Adrien Rabiot appeared to be charged off the ball by Hakan Calhanoglu near the halfway line.

The loose ball arrives at the feet of the outstanding Rafael Leao who gallops down the left and picks out Davide Calabria with a splendid pass.

The full-back finishes the move with a sidefoot effort into the top corner which Wojciech Szczęsny does not move for.

  11. YELLOW CARD - Vesga (Athletic Bilbao)published at 29 mins

    Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Barcelona

A low cross close to the left touchline from winger Iker Muniain causes problems for the Barcelona defence but no Athletic Bilbao man can convert.

Home midfielder Mikel Vesga is the first man to be booked, leaving a foot in as Ousmane Dembele was far too good for him and threatening to race away.

  12. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Barcelona

Ousmane Dembele slides a pass to team-mate Jordi Alba in the left channel and the left-back shoots low at goal, but Unai Simon does well to parry the effort.

It's been a mixed bag from Simon so far. He's made three good saves, although he'll be disappointed with his decision-making for Barcelona's equaliser.

  13. Another shock Copa del Rey exit for Atleticopublished at 20:24 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2021

  14. goal

GOAL - Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Barcelonapublished at 14 mins

    Pedri (Barcelona)

Great game in northern Spain. Barcelona weren't behind for long. Lionel Messi plays in a cross from the left, home goalkeeper Unai Simon does not know whether to come for the cross or stay on his line and the ball goes over his head.

Frenkie de Jong is there at the back post to hook the ball back into the danger zone and, with Simon out of position, Pedri is able to head an equaliser into an unguarded net.

  15. Postpublished at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2021

    Athletic Bilbao 1-0 Barcelona

Athletic are having the best chances and Barcelona are really struggling to deal with goalscorer Inaki Williams. He gets himself free in the penalty area, but can only shoot low at Ter Stegen.

Straight down the other end and Ousmane Dembele strikes at goal but Unai Simon makes his second save of the match, pushing it wide for a corner, which comes to nothing.

  16. goal

GOAL - Milan 0-1 Juventuspublished at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2021

    Federico Chiesa (18 mins)

Federico Chiesa has been the player of the match so far and gives Juve the lead after a sublime one-two with Paulo Dybala.

The Italian began the move on the right then latched on to Dybala's flick before drilling home.

The goalscorer had moments earlier rattled the Milan post with a fierce strike.

    Athletic Bilbao 1-0 Barcelona

So close to an Athletic second. Iker Munian holds up the ball and that allows full-back Yuri Berchiche to overlap, the ball is slid to Berchiche and he shoots into the side netting.

At the other end, Lionel Messi forces a save from home goalkeeper Unai Simon.

A very lively opening seven minutes.

  19. goal

GOAL - Athletic Bilbao 1-0 Barcelonapublished at 3 mins

    Inaki Williams

The hosts take the early lead. Barcelona are pushing forward but then get hit with a lightning counter attack.

Athletic's Raul Garcia sends a ball into space for the super-quick Inaki Williams to race in at the Barcelona goal from the halfway line.

As the Barca defenders desperately tried to get back, Williams cuts inside defender Clement Lenglet and calmly shoots past Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

There's already been a huge shock today in the Spain...

La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid suffered a shock exit in the second round of the Copa del Rey as they were beaten 1-0 by third-tier UE Cornella.

Adrian Jimenez scored the only goal after seven minutes when he flicked an Agustin Medina free-kick into the net.

Atletico had to play the final 27 minutes with 10 men after Ricard Sanchez was sent off for two bookable offences.

Diego Simeone’s side also saw defender Jose Gimenez suffer an ankle injury.
