Really impressive display for the Blues then, Mikel San Jose and George Friend were superb at the back, Maikel Kieftenbeld ensured midfield supremacy and Jeremie Bela ran himself into the ground and Scott Hogan got the key goal.

Middlesbrough showed plenty of heart and improvement after the break. But despite throwing plenty at the Blues, they were kept at bay. Sam Morsy's header the best they enjoyed, bouncing off the woodwork and out.

Boro looked tired. Maybe their Covid-19 issues took their toll. Their training ground was shut for 10 days. They lacked their usual energy.

    Lovely play by Middlesbrough.

Their turn to knock the ball about, then Jonny Howson lofts a ball down the middle which Duncan Watmore tracks into the box, but his cross is blocked.

The brains and craft of Howson a real weapon.
