  1. Rivals out to continue improvementpublished at 14:35 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    Kilmarnock v Hamilton Academical (15:00)

So tight is the bottom half of the Premiership that a win today could lift Kilmarnock into seventh ahead of St Mirren - yet they are only four points off the bottom having won only once in seven games.

Third-bottom visitors Hamilton would draw level with the Ayrshire side on points, albeit with a much worse goal difference, should they win at Rugby Park.

To do so, though, Brian Rice's side would have to do something they have failed to achieve all season - win back-to-back league games.

They arrive boosted by their 3-0 win over neighbours Motherwell, but Kilmarnock have also arrested their own decline with two unbeaten games and have not lost at Rugby Park in Accies' last seven visits.

    St Mirren v Motherwell (15:00)

Props also to the St Mirren ground staff for getting today's match on when so many other games have fallen victim to the weather.

    Fraserburgh v Banks O'Dee (15:00)

Highland League club Fraserburgh are understandably proud to have done better than many higher league outfits in getting their Scottish Cup against Banks O'Dee playable.

Fraserburgh invested in pitch covers after their cup tie against Rangers in 2018, when they suffered a major postponement due to frost, and the game today has only been possible because of that.

  6. Accies shorn of experienced duopublished at 14:21 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    Kilmarnock v Hamilton Academical (15:00)

Hamilton are without two of their most experienced defenders in Brian Easton and Aaron Martin, so 20-year-old George Stanger steps back in after replacing Easton off the bench last week. Midfielder Charlie Trafford also returns to the XI.

Goalkeeper Ryan Fulton is fit enough to return to the squad but is on the bench.

  7. No Brophy, but Killie unchangedpublished at 14:17 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    Kilmarnock v Hamilton Academical (15:00)

Kilmarnock are without Eamonn Brophy after the Scotland striker joined St Mirren on loan after having already agreed a summer switch to the Paisley club.

St Mirren were Kilmarnock's last opponents and manager Alex Dyer sticks with the same XI that drew that match 1-1.

  8. Brophy on bench for St Mirrenpublished at 14:15 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    St Mirren v Motherwell (15:00)

Eamonn Brophy will need to wait at least a little bit longer for his St Mirren debut after being named on the bench.

The striker has joined the Buddies on loan for the rest of the season ahead of a permanent move this summer.

Fellow forward Kristian Dennis was doubtful with a slight calf problem and does not make the squad.

Winger Ilkay Durmus returns from a neck problem on the bench and former Motherwell full-back Richard Tait has recovered from a bout of concussion to start.

So there are only two changes to Jim Goodwin's line-up, with midfielder Kyle McAllister and forward Lee Erwin starting in place of Brandon Mason and Jon Obika, neither of whom make the squad.

  9. New Well boss gives debut to keeperpublished at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    St Mirren v Motherwell (15:00)

Graham Alexander takes charge of Motherwell for the first time today and makes two changes to the side that lost 3-0 to Hamilton Academical last week.

Goalkeeper Liam Kelly starts after joining on loan from Queens Park Rangers this week and replaces Aaron Chapman. Peter Morrison is the new reserve goalkeeper having been recalled from his loan with Falkirk.

In midfield, Mark O'Hara is back from suspension and takes over from the benched Liam Grimshaw.

  10. Limited room for cup shocks?published at 14:08 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    Scottish Cup second round

The Scottish Cup's second round has been decimated, with just six games beating the Beast From The East.

One of them, though, you can watch from the comfort of your armchair topped by a bundle of blankets as BBC Scotland broadcasts the tie between Championship promotion chasers Dundee and Lowland League visitors Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic later this evening.

The team from the higher league are at home in all six ties, so cup shocks might be in limited supply, although League One promotion hopefuls Cove Rangers will fancy their chances away to an Alloa Athletic side sitting second bottom of the division above.

    Scottish Premiership

We were already down to three Premiership fixtures today before the match at Tannadice was called off this afternoon.

The game between Livingston and Ross County was moved back 24 hours until Sunday in the hope it will give the artificial surface at Tony Macaroni Arena more time to thaw.

Particularly intriguing is Graham Alexander's debut as Motherwell manager, away to St Mirren, after the former Scotland defender succeeded Stephen Robinson.
