According to the rules, the double-jeopardy argument exists if:

Players committing accidental fouls that deny a goalscoring chance will now be cautioned instead.

But deliberate fouls will still incur a red card.

Those include holding, pulling or pushing, not playing the ball, serious foul play, violent conduct or deliberate handball in order to deny a goalscoring opportunity.

The argument here, you presume, is that Daivd Luiz was not playing the ball. Harsh. Thoughts?

The coolest man in the stadium is Ruben Neves. A great penalty.

Leno is dancing around on the line but he doesn’t bother Neves, picks his spot, puts it into the far corner.

Wolves get themselves level and they don’t deserve it.

Brilliant start from Arsenal. Bukayo Saka hit the post, Nicolas Pepe hit the post, then Pepe curled in that great goal.

It was all going so well before that David Luiz's red card and the penalty, put away by Ruben Neves, right before the break.

Now with Arsenal down to 10 men, surely Wolves will fancy this?

Liz Tray: That red is nonsense. The guy is running in front of him. Any touch (and what there is is very minor) is accidental. I give up with these rules.

Sam Hartles: I thought those sort of fouls for penalties was no longer a red card? Didn’t the “double jeopardy” get stopped last season?

How is that a red card? It's an accidental trip. 100% a penalty. But it's a disgrace that VAR haven't overturned that. The players crossed paths and he went down. Game ruined by poor officiating. Again. VAR useless.

It’s a clear penalty, David Luiz just gets the wrong side of Willian Jose, clips his heels. It’s a red card.

They are just double checking it. Was Luiz tripped too?

    Nope, nothing overturned. Penalty stands.

  11. RED CARD - David Luizpublished at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2021

    Wolves 0-1 Arsenal

David Luiz clips the heels of Willian Jose. He's a bit unlucky as it didn't look deliberate - more clumsy - but he's been shown a straight red.

  12. PENALTY - Wolvespublished at 18:47 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2021

    Wolves 0-1 Arsenal

Willian Jose is in! He's one-on-one with the keeper and he's brought down by David Luiz, who could be in trouble here...

Callum Robinson is getting joy down this left side. He lifts another inviting cross in from the left but it's too high for Mbaye Diagne.

Daniel Cheng: Such silky feet there from Pepe. 110 per cent deserves to start ahead of Willian.

It's drilled in from the left by Callum Robinson, saved by Aaron Ramsdale and it falls to Mbaye Diagne a few yards out.

He reacts to poke it goalwards but Ramsdale gets his body in the way again. Matt Phillips is then on the line ready to put in the rebound, with no Sheffield United defenders reacting to it.

    BIG goal!

John Lundstram has time to pick out a cross from the right and he finds Billy Sharp in the middle.

Sharp is always stretching though, and he can't keep the header down.

Pedro Neto is working hard. He races away on the right this time and again, wins a corner off Cedric Soares.

It's played short before Ruben Neves hits it from long range. It's straight at the keeper.

Pepe gets the ball in a one v one situation in the penalty box and he drives at Semedo, gives him a little bit of a stepover.

Semedo feels he’s being pulled back but it isn’t a foul.

Then Pepe nutmegs Neves, puts it on to his right foot and brilliantly bends it around the defender into the far corner.

What a goal from Nicolas Pepe – we’ve been waiting for him to show us this sort of moment of brilliance.
