Southampton
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl on BT Sport: "It was tough, when you lose a player after three minutes against such a team. It's tough 11 v 11.
"We tried to keep a clean sheet in the second half for as long as possible. To concede nine goals again, I can take it. We stepped up after the first one [losing 9-0 v Leicester at home last season] and will step up after the second one.
"The 90 minutes can be very long. The result is there and we have to live with the result again. We've had a very good season and no-one expected such an evening today.
"It doesn't reflect on what we've done this season. It's hard to explain what's going on in my mind - we have to live it with it again."
FT: Newcastle 1-2 Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson tells BT Sport: "I thought we didn’t start very well, with the goal against so early on and it was a poor goal to concede. I thought that could spell trouble
"But I thought we got back into the game well and even before we scored we created a couple of chances and were passing the ball really well.
"I thought in the second half we lost our way a little bit but that's part and parcel of being in the Premier League when you need points as caution takes precedence."
On Wilfried Zaha's injury: "We have really had a bad patch when it comes to picking up injuries – I'm hoping it wont be a bad one as Wilf has tremendous powers of recovery."
FT: Newcastle 1-2 Crystal Palace
Newcastle United
Newcastle boss Steve Bruce speaking to MOTD: "Frustrated and disappointed as our perforamnce didn't deserve for us to be beat. We had 10 minutes where we went too deep and let in sloppy goals. In this league that punishes you.
"Our performance levels have been better certainly over the last few weeks. We have tried to implement change in the last month or so and what you're looking for is a performance to go with it. As often in the Premier League, it's definining moments. Apart from that 10-15 minute spell, we had the better chances and should have taken something from the game.
"Crystal palace do what they do and go back to defend deep so you have to prise them open. We had Ryan Fraser playing at right-back by the end to try and break them down but it was not enough.
"I said about a month ago after Sheffield United, we are going to try to change. The players had been comfortable for a long time. We are trying to change. It's what I want to do and I think the players are enjoying it. Performance-wise, if we keep going the way we are, we will be okay."

Marc Richards: Gotta say today was probably the worst day for VAR in the history of VAR in the Premier League. Some major wrong decisions.. David Luiz, Che Adams and Bednarek... Referees really need to start doing interviews.
Dr David: You can say football lost but it’s been a brilliant evening of entertainment. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!
How are we talking about VAR? How often does a team win 9-0? It's not changed the game and we should be celebrating goals and football, not moaning about referees or technology.

Newcastle United
Newcastle boss Steve Bruce to BT Sport:
"I was pleased with the performance, we had an awkward 15 minutes where we’ve conceded two goals from a mistake and set-piece but apart from that I couldn’t be more pleased with how we went about our work.
"We had the chances but we just dropped that little bit deep again and that cost us. I think we’ve had 20 attempts on goal and two, three, four, five in the first half when we should have been more clinical."

That was the fifth time Manchester United have won a game by nine goals.
Their only bigger success was the club record 10-0 against Anderlecht in 1956.

Manchester United
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to BBC Sport: "Towards the end when they had nine men, the law that sends him off is a strange one. He had to come off but it was great to get a game like this. When they had a man sent off it was upto us to get the first goal.
What did you say at half-time? "Go and play the game properly, paly it correctly and you will get chances."
Think about 9-0 win over Ipswich? "I did not think about that at all, we just focus on improving and getting better and learning experience to finds different areas and spaces.
"Anthony Martial, it is good to get him going, he could have had another one with the chip. Unfortunately it did not go in but good performance from everyone.
"You have to take your chances in tight or open games, you never know what might be the deciding factor, we know - better than anyone - what goal difference can do to you because we have lost the league on goal difference.
"Confidence is one think but it was about the mojo and spark, the X-Factor. Mason Greenwood was terrific and his performance was top for a player who did not score a goal.
"The second sending off for them, that rule should be taken away. The other rule is the offside one when play carries on and Aaron Wan-Bissaka was hurt by it. We have called for that to be changed."

Manchester United
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking to BT Sport: "We shared the goals between the players. When the game starts like it does it's always if you can get the first goal as we have seen so many examples of 10 men closing up shop and getting a draw.
"We've been waiting for them to show the magic and it was a night for them to go and enjoy it. We've not had many times where we could just enjoy the second half.
"You get lots of confidence from a performance like this, scoring goals is always good for a team."
On the first red card, he added: "You don't see many of those tackles anymore. I'm glad Scott is well and he's got away with just a couple of bruises."
FT: Newcastle 1-2 Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson to MOTD: "It's a back-to-back win which is even harder to come by. We knew it wouldn't be easy but it's good to get six points from here [and Wolves]. But suddenly we are looking around wondering where all our players are. It's going to be a problem trying to get these players fit again. These injuries have to be assessed. [Wilfried Zaha] doesn't normally get injured so it's concerning he has come off. Hopefully it's nothing serious.
"I thought we played well. Having seen the goal back it was a much better strike than I first anticipated. It was one hell of a strike really. We played well after that. At half time I felt good about our play. But then you tend to be more cautious because you know they have to do something special and you perhaps stop asking questions. We really should have scored the third goal to put the game to bed.
"I thought [the players] dug in extremely well. The work rate right the way through the team was tremendous. The back four were organised and disciplined. They put their bodies on the line. It's the type of things that win you games."

Tonight VAR took at least 5 mins maybe more to make the decisions. Yet injury time was only 3 mins. VAR is supposed to make the game run more smoothly. Lot of wrong decisions tonight.
Chris
Please can we go back to humans making mistakes with decisions in real time, rather than humans watching a replay 17 times or drawing lines in the wrong place and then making a mistake anyway?

Manchester United's Marcus Rashford speaking to BT Sport: "It's always good to score lots of goals and we're happy, it's three points we have needed, we dropped some points in the last few games and needed to get back to winning ways which we've done.
"We just needed to be as simple as possible, keep moving, be positive. It's easy to take your foot off the gas but we didn't want to do that we went out in the second half the same as the first. The first half set the tone for us but it's about keeping a positive attitude and keep scoring goals."
On the first red card: "I think that's quite unlucky, he's just a bit late there I think it was a red but unfortunate for the young player."
On passing Eric Cantona's on United's top goalscorers list: "He was a top player who has done so much for this club so I'm pleased but for me I just want to score more goals and help the team."
On looking at other teams: "We haven't looked at Liverpool really we are still improving and we need to focus on ourselves We're not a ready made team but we have to just keep improving and working on our goals."
Man Utd 9-0 Southampton
Southampton
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl to BBC Sport: "One man down after three minutes against this opponent, congrats to Man United and they worked us off and did not stop scoring. The second red card is most disappointing, we don't have anymore players.
"Jan Bednarek does not kill him but I do not want to speak about the referee. Last week he was our VAR and made his mark in the game. It was a stupid foul from the young lad and kills everything.
"When you come here with two goalkeepers on the bench, I wanted to give a few young lads to show up. When I have seen what is going on it is better to take them out because 9-0 on debut is not a good score to have.
"We tried in the second half to keep a clean sheet as much as we could but at nine men it was too easy for them to score.
"What can I say? It is horrible but we stood up after the first 9-0 and we have to do that again. I said at the time we do not need it again but when we have it again you have to take it."
Newcastle 1-2 Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace's Jairo Riedewald: "We started very weak. We lost challenges and weren't aggressive enough. But we reacted well and scored two great goals. Very happy with the result and the comeback.
"We had a strong line defensively so we were very solid. We protected our goal good in the second half.
"It was a good strike. I had my eyes close. I will watch it back afterwards!
"[Wilfried Zaha] is of course hard to replace. He is such an important player for us. I hope it is not serious. We definitely need Wilf back in the team ASAP."
FT: Newcastle 1-2 Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace
Palace defender Gary Cahill tells BT Sport: "It was tough, wet and slippy but we knew the conditions would be difficult and we dug in, three points and back to back wins now which is a positive for us.
"It's massive. I spoke before the West Ham game about how if you get a few wins, it breeds confidence. We deserved it against Wolves and we did well today.
"I've struggled a little bit this season, had a couple of niggles, I didn’t have a pre-season which was big and I’m chasing sharpness."
On his first goal since 2018: "It's embarrassing [it's been that long]. It’s been a long time coming. I used to get quite a few goals so that’s well overdue."
Man Utd 9-0 Southampton
Marcus Rashford says he is "pleased" about surpassing Eric Cantona on Manchester United's list of goalscorers.

United fan: football has lost tonight. How can you give a red and a penalty for a foul in which the defender pulls out and the ball is beyond the attacker? Where has the double jeopardy law gone? Very silly.
Jack
United fan here feeling a bit sorry for Bednarek. Martial already on the way down minimal contact really if any. VAR has had 3 big decisions wrong for me.
