Ar Vind: Liverpool passing without any intent again. Getting vibes of Burnley game.

Mark Willis: This is a bit like the first half against West Ham... Hope the second half follows that pattern.

  2. CLOSE!published at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2021

Aston Villa 0-0 West Ham United

Concerted West Ham pressure. You're used to seeing him bang in a header or two, now Tomas Soucek goes for finesse and very nearly curls in a beauty from about 16 yards out, wide to the left.

Just cuts it wide. Great effort.

    Leeds 1-2 Everton

We've just had one of those incidents that we all don't really want to be a penalty, but the water of which has been muddied by VAR. Luke Ayling misjudges a header and the dropping ball hits his arm. It's completely unintentional, but they've been given. Not on this occasion, though. I reckon that is the sensible outcome.

Liverpool are knocking at the door but they can't get there at the moment because of the positions of the Brighton players. It's a test for Jordan Henderson tonight, as well as he has done in that position - but it is a proper centre half job that he will have to do tonight to keep Neal Maupay at bay.

Aston Villa 0-0 West Ham United

One for the cameras - Aaron Cresswell bends in a free-kick for West Ham from right on the corner of the area and Emi Martinez goes full Hollywood to fly and punch it out when he probably could have just caught it.

    Good ball in though.

Well played Ben Godfrey. He holds his ground and sees the ball out for a goal-kick as Luke Ayling looks to get to the byline.

    Leeds 1-2 Everton

Everton remind Leeds just how much of a threat they are on the break as Richarlison picks up the ball and goes. He has to come inside to Iwobi, who is fouled by a scrambling Phillips. Still plenty left in this.

  8. CLOSE!published at 20:45 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2021

Aston Villa 0-0 West Ham United

And now Villa really should be ahead. Jack Grealish is fouled on the left, the fere-kick is helped on all the way to Ross Barkley at the far post.

He's got a man charging him down but should at least hit the target - instead he scuffs his shot wide.

The Leeds free-kick is swung in by Raphinha but headed clear as Everton dig in. And boy are they having to dig deep.

    Leeds 1-2 Everton

Leeds are now swarming all over Everton. Klich drives into the box but can't ick out a team-mate before Alioski is fouled for a dangerous free-kick near the box.

Aston Villa 0-0 West Ham United

Jesse Lingard had the most shots and touches of any West Ham player in the opening 20 minutes.

Now at the other end Ollie Watkins curls wide from a tight angle. Decent game between two decent sides.

    Leeds 1-2 Everton

Raphinha is in the thick of it again, flicking a ball for Stuart Dallas to smash towards goal but ultimately into the face of an Everton defender. Leeds' tales are up.

Aston Villa 0-0 West Ham United

Sometimes a player just needs a move. Jesse Lingard has looked superb in these opening stages. No, he has!

He starts another West Ham attack and is in the right place to meet the cutback in the area, but a Villa defender slides in to just about cut it out.

It fell lovely for Dan Burn on the six yard box, he just scoops it over the bar with his wrong foot. Great composed centre forward play. What a chance for Brighton - that's the best chance so far.

    Leeds 1-2 Everton

Everton will be sick of the sight of Raphinha. It was he who scored the winner at Goodison earlier this campaign. That is his fifth of the season.

  16. CHANCE!published at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2021

Liverpool 0-0 Brighton and Hove Albion

Oh and that's a great chance for Brighton!

Neal Maupay does brilliantly inside the area to lose Jordan Henderson, sidestep another defender and then get a shot away. It's blocked, but spins up and across the goalmouth where the looming figure of Dan Burn is waiting.

He swings at it, all 7ft-odd of him, but slices it over the bar from just a few yards out.

  17. CLOSE!published at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2021

Aston Villa 0-0 West Ham United

It's West Ham who have had the better of the opening stages but Villa then craft a good chance - Matt Cash with the swinging ball in on the run from the right, Ollie Watkins has separation from Craig Dawson and meets it beautifully, arcing his neck to thump in a header - just too high.

A few yards over the bar.

    Raphinha

    Game on.

Leeds are back into this within minutes of the restart and it is that man Raphinha again, adding to his recent goal at Newcastle with another side-foot finish into the corner after being set up by Patrick Bamford.

Everton had chances to clear but couldn't get the ball away.

  20. 'I see a team here that are fighting'published at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2021

    FT: Fulham 0-2 Leicester

    Fulham

Fulham boss Scott Parker speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The cold hard fact is that we’ve lost a football match today and we know what we need to do - we need to win. We huffed and puffed at times and the main focus for us is the next game, West Ham and a run of games that we need to win. This group of players know what we need to do and we will come out fighting they were clinical the quality was there. We are where we are.

"Quality at both ends was the difference, we had some good moments in the first half but we still didn't cause them many problems. Their quality in the final third was evident. The facts are we have to win some football matches. There's no point in drawing we have to win. We’ll go again like we have done this year and we keep going.

"There’s still 17 games left, I understand what the perception will be but a team here that have been in games. We have played against a very good team and we have 17 games to go, we know what we need to do and there needs to be a clear focus on that.

"I don’t see a team here that are wilting away or not in contests, I see a team that are fighting. It’s clear to see when we fall short but that’s where we are but we keep fighting and the players fight and we keep trying to improve.

"I see a team here that can win games. Our season will not be defined against Leicester, Man United or Chelsea - they will be defined in the games we have coming up. While we have hope and commitment and a willingness to understand that we’ll be fine."
