  1. Mourinho 'getting closer' to silverwarepublished at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2021

    Tottenham v Chelsea (20:00 GMT)

    BBC World Service

Former Tottenham and Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet: "I wasn't expecting Spurs to challenge for the title at the beginning of the season. I knew they would be close to trophies, and they're already in a final, that was clear. That's Jose Mourinho at his best.

"Then they surprised me when they were close to the top, but we must be honest this season, it's been quite strange - now Manchester City is a bit better than the rest.

"We need to realise that with Harry Kane, Tottenham should be in the top four, or very close, but without Kane, I'd say it's very difficult to get in the top four. That's how important Harry Kane is to the team.

"The main thing for Mourinho - trophies. He has already arrived in a final and the rest he's going to try, and he's getting closer and close (to silverware)."

It IS difficult to coach Chelsea. Expectations are sky high, you don't always get the personnel you want and you only get 10 minutes in the job before the warning klaxon sounds!

Yep, Timo Werner really needs to find his scoring boots again. No goals in his last 12 Premier League games since netting in the 4-1 win over Sheffield United on 7 November.

David Hoyle9850: Really hopeful for Werner to score tonight he is a top-class German striker who in the last two games has really been a constant threat. Just really hope that Werner scores tonight to end the goal drought and a Chelsea win would really make my night.

John Arundell: Tonight is Tuchel's first real test, the rivalry and against a Spurs team who can play good football on their day.

Steve in Milan: Jorginho again......is he learning nothing?

  8. Which Premier League club would suit Haaland best?published at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2021

    Erling Braut Haaland

With the January window closed, all transfer talk now focuses on the summer - and, with that, comes the question of whether Erling Braut Haaland will leave Borussia Dortmund.

A move to the Premier League has long been mooted for the Norway international, much of this owing to his father Alfe-Inge's successful playing career in England.

"One day, Erling wants to play in the Premier League," his father has said. "I don't know when the timing will be ideal."

So, if Haaland were to venture to England, which side would suit him best and which club would benefit the most?

Jamal Musiala scored for England Under-21s in a 5-0 win over Albania in November

Germany boss Joachim Low wants to call up Bayern Munich attacker Jamal Musiala - a move that would stop the player representing England, says German football expert Raphael Honigstein.

Musiala, 17, who spent eight years at Chelsea, has played for England Under-21s and is eligible for both countries.

"Germany are making strong moves, they have made it official they want him in the senior team - he can choose England or Germany," Honigstein told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast.

The teenager was born in Germany to a British-Nigerian father and German mother and then moved to England at a young age.

He was in Chelsea’s academy before joining Bayern in July 2019 and has represented England at under-15, under-16, under-17 and under-21 levels, but also Germany at under-16s.

However, the first country he plays for at senior level in a competitive match will be the nation he represents for the rest of his career.

Another one that makes for terrible reading.

Chelsea have conceded 50 Premier League away goals since the start of last season, a total exceeded only by Newcastle.

But Thomas Tuchel can become the first Chelsea boss to record clean sheets in each of his first three league games since...

This piece was published when Thomas Tuchel was appointed as Chelsea boss and is well worth a read for an insight into the German.

"Tuchel is one of the most complex personalities in European football management. The 47-year-old is known as a political power player and control freak, but also as a tactical visionary and methodical thinker. He was dismissed by Paris St-Germain in late December after months full of fights between him and sporting director Leonardo.

"While some in France claim Tuchel never brought the best out of a star-studded squad, PSG still reached the Champions League final in August and won back-to-back domestic titles. His track record was certainly good enough for Chelsea's board, who approached him shortly before Lampard's dismissal."

"It is not difficult to coach Chelsea," is what former Blues boss Jose Mourinho said in the build-up to the match.

"I was champion three times, [Carlo] Ancelotti was champion, Antonio Conte was champion. It cannot be very, very difficult because we won titles there."

Tottenham, with Jose Mourinho as manager, and Chelsea, following their transfer splurge in the summer, would both have expected to perform much better.

The two London clubs are a huge 14 points adrift of leaders Manchester City.
