That is it for tonight. One for the purists across both matches, you'd say.

The relentless nature for the Championship and the rest of the EFL continues in midweek with earnest. Tuesday and Wednesday action to whet the appetite.

Blackburn's win keeps them in the mix, they climb to ninth. Boro stay seventh.

Reading's draw with Preston earlier sees no change to the Royals' position - but it's a missed opportunity for Veljko Paunovic's side.

It's only the second win in seven Championship games for Blackburn, and a priceless one if they are to maintain any kind of promotion challenge this season.

For Boro, it's their second home defeat in a row, and by quirk of fate, both inflicted by sides coached by former Boro bosses.

Aitor Karanka and Birmingham last weekend, and Mogga and Rovers this.

It's a happy return to his boyhood club for Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray as Rovers beat the Teessiders thanks to a goal by Joe Rothwell.

Boro felt they should have had a penalty after a high-boot from defender Jarrad Branthwaite left Dael Fry with a facial wound and forced to go off,

Not a happy Neil Warnock, and he had plenty to say to Branthwaite and the officials afterwards.
