Well, that livened up in the end didn't it?

Brentford and Swansea didn't quite deliver the fireworks we hoped for in their 1-1 draw, but there was plenty of entertainment in the other three games to keep us occupied.

Mick McCarthy can still buy a pint (well, one day) in Barnsley despite his Cardiff side coming away with a draw against the Tykes.

Neil Warnock will be seething after his side lost 3-0 at home to Rotherham, who were excellent and positive in their approach.

And Coventry scored two good goals, both created by the influential Callum O'Hare, to see off Sheffield Wednesday.

You know what, I enjoyed it enough to want to do it again. If you're with me, join us back here on Friday night. And, for that matter, Saturday too.

There's even more to come, so why not make it a date? Until then, good night.

As for the bottom end of the table...

The big winners tonight are Rotherham, who reel in a host of clubs around the bottom three with that win over Boro.

Sheffield Wednesday's recent revival has been sideswiped, and they remain in trouble.

Coventry are now enjoying the rarified air of 17th, a healthy six points away from danger.

2nd to 7th in the Championship

Swansea are second, Brentford in fourth. Could have been sweeter with a win.

Boro's loss leaves them seventh. No change there but a missed opportunity to put pressure on Bournemouth.

Big second-half response from Mick McCarthy's Cardiff side on his return to former club Barnsley.

The Tykes were 2-0 up with goals from Mads Andersen and Cauley Woodrow, but the Bluebirds found their way back into the game thanks to goals from Sheyi Ojo and Kieffer Moore.

    Points shared at Oakwell.

    Swansea 1-1 Brentford

Lively finish at Liberty Stadium where Brentford will wonder how they didn't win it.

They were dominant, saw Swansea go down to 10 men when Kyle Naughton was sent-off and Tariqe Fosu put them a goal up.

But the Swans are made of sterner stuff and Conor Hourihane's first goal for the club was enough to earn a priceless point.

Both sides still in the mix, but a missed opportunity for the Bees.

    Middlesbrough 0-3 Rotherham

Chastening night for Neil Warnock's Middlesbrough who have now lost their last three home games, but this was the most convincing.

Rotherham were excellent, took the game to the Teessiders and got their rewards.

Matt Crooks, Michael Smith and Ryan Giles - on his debut - got the goals to give Paul Warne's side a big lift in their battle against the drop, and dent Boro's promotion push.

    Jamie Allen (90 mins)

    No mistaking it this time.

Callum O'Hare again delivers the killer pass, sliding a diagonal in behind the Wednesday defence and Jamie Allen nutmegs Keiren Westwood with a low effort to double the lead. Big three points for Coventry.

Michael Ihiekwe puts himself Platoon-style in the way of a Sam Morsy shot, Richard Wood and Angus MacDonald had similarly bravely put themselves before George Saville's effort.

Boro throwing plenty at Rotherham here.

Julian Borner makes a massive block on the line to stop Coventry adding a second.

Max Biamou slaps a shot after a scramble at the near post following a corner, but Borner is there for Wednesday to turn it away.

Not sure he knew much about it...

Up stepped Michael Smith, who rolled his penalty coolly down the middle to pretty much finish this one off.

    Conor Hourihane (78 mins)

    Well, well, well.

Brentford having just gone in front are pegged back. Disappointing from David Raya, who allowed Conor Hourihane's free-kick to sail beyond him under pressure.

Then, Adam Reach sent in a teasing cross and as Josh Windass stretched to meet it, it ran through to goalkeeper Ben Wilson.

  19. goal

GOAL: Barnsley 2-2 Cardiffpublished at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2021

    Kieffer Moore (68 mins)

What a turnaround at Oakwell, as Cardiff pull level against Barnsley.

Corner from the right-hand side swung into the back post where Kieffer Moore got up and nodded in unopposed. He got 25 goals in 55 games for the Tykes but it's all about the Bluebirds now.

All-square, and Cardiff in the groove.

  20. RED CARD - Kyle Naughton (Swansea)published at 20:28 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2021

    Swansea 0-0 Brentford

Swansea down to 10 with 21 minutes to go, after Kyle Naughton lunges in on Sergi Canos, as he tentatively pushed forward with the ball at his feet.

He was booked in the first-half, now he's off. Onus is definitely with Brentford now.
