Everton assistant boss Duncan Ferguson, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was an exciting game. Tottenham started better than us and got the lead but we got ourselves back ino the game.

"At 3-1 you're thinking 'get to half-time at 3-1' and then they score to put us on the back foot. Exciting game, fantastic.

"It's 25 years since we won the FA Cup. It would be great to get to the final. It keeps your season going. We want to do well in the Premier League but the FA Cup is the one we want."

This was the highest scoring FA Cup tie between two top-flight teams since February 1961 when Sheffield Wednesday won 7-2 against Manchester United.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, speaking to BBC Sport: "If you say it was fantastic, it was fantastic. I'm not a neutral.

"When you score four goals, you have to win. The way we played, we should win comfortably. Attacking football and defensive mistakes.

"The players gave everything. I have to admit for some of them it was not easy because you play so well and one, two, three mistakes and you're losing 3-1.

"OK, I take positives. Amazing to watch."

Everton assistant manager Duncan Ferguson, speaking to BT Sport: "Fantastic game, brilliant game. Defences struggled, we struggled a bit in set plays and they struggled in corners. We went 1-0 down and then got back in the game. We played a lot of good football - I started to lose count of the goals.

"Couple of good goals, Dominic Calvert-Lewin got the penalty and scored one of his own, Gylfi Sigurdsson was brilliant. There were a lot of good performances on the attacking side. Spurs were putting in some good deliveries, we couldn't deal with them, considering we're a big side, fair play to them they did really well.

"It was end to end, great for the fans watching at home. Great for us to go through - we showed a lot of good spirit and then Bernard pops up with the winner so it was a great game.

"It was a long night for everyone so the main thing is that we've come away and won it."

Duncan Ferguson has been sent out to do the post-match TV interviews. I'm guessing Carlo Ancelotti has gone for a lie-down.

Everton

Gylfi Sigurdsson became the first Everton player to assist three goals in a single match since Steven Pienaar against Fulham in a Premier League game in April 2012.

It was a proper captain's performance by Sigurdsson who also scored from the penalty spot.

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, speaking to BT Sport: "I enjoyed it - and I didn't enjoy it. I enjoyed the way we played with the ball.

"We created, we had great movement, we scored goals, created chances. Showed great character to fight against incredible mistakes. But attacking football only wins matches when you don't make more mistakes than you create. We scored four goals and it was not enough.

"It hurts everyone. The feeling is we played really well with the ball, we were brave, we were the best team at 1-0 and in five minutes it was mistake, mistake, mistake, goal, goal, goal.

"We fought back again but had more mistakes. It was the mouse and the cat. The mouse was our mistakes and the cat was us trying to compensate for that."

In what is the 981st match of his managerial career, this is the first time a Jose Mourinho side has both scored and conceded at least four goals in a single game.

Everton

Everton's Gylfi Sigurdsson, speaking to BT Sport: "It was too open ended, too many goals. Probably good to watch at home but fantastic to come back, we conceded three goals from corners/set pieces which is something we need to work on. But the spirit in the team to come back and eventually go through is fantastic.

"I think we were better in the first 20-30 minutes and after our goal we came out a bit and had a 3-1 lead. Obviously we lost that but we had good spirit.

"I can imagine it was fantastic to sit at home and watch the game but for our liking it was too open - but it was a fantastic cup game and great to still be in the competition,

On returning to his former club: "Always special for me to play Tottenham, I love the club, love the players and staff here and it's nice to see everyone here again. But most importantly we're still in the competition."

Jose Mourinho is facing the TV cameras. He's smiling. Everton will get the headlines for winning but his team played their part in a remarkable match.

Sometimes you get big scores in FA Cup games and it's because you've got shadow teams out there, they weren't shadow teams, they were the best teams to be stuck out there and they gave us their best.

It was a classic of a FA Cup game, I loved every single second of it. If you could see that sort of application and effort from the players every single week it would be brilliant. It's almost impossible when you play this amount of games.

I am stunned that they've produced this amount of quality - some people might talk about the lack of defending it's actually about the quality of the goals, the creation and the effort.

What a fabulous cup tie, brilliant for the FA Cup - what a joy to be here tonight.

By the way, the draw for the quarter-finals is scheduled to take place shortly before Barnsley's tie with Chelsea which kicks-off at 20:00 GMT.
