Another VAR check and you have to say Timo Werner is lucky to get away with this.

Moussa Djenepo slips and the Chelsea striker loses control of the ball before stretching and catching the Saints man high on the leg with his studs.

    Play on.

Ralph Hasenhuttl punched the air then took a swig of water after that goal, while Thomas Tuchel slumped back into his chair and readjusted his beanie in anger.

Now let's see what the visitors have.

Totally against the run of play - 29% possession for Southampton. I was going to tell you that the whole game has been played in Southampton's half and that offensively Southampton have offered absolutely nothing offensively and then they went up the other end and scored.

Paul Collins: That is a fantastic finish by minamino. How calm and composed was he? Chelsea bossing this game mostly yet are losing.

Beautiful finish. Putting the Goalie and Defender on their bums before slotting home

    Chris

As I say every week there's no point passing 800 times with no shots. Kante has been brilliant but Abraham shocking - can't hold the ball up.

    Against the run of play!

First attack, first shot and it is the first goal for Southampton - and what a little beauty it is.

Nathan Redmond finds space in the middle of the park and plays a precise, defence-splitting pass to Takumi Minamino running into the box.

The Japan international is cool as ice, taking a touch and putting Cesar Azpilicueta on his backside, the second puts Edouard Mendy in the same place before rolling a nonchalant outside-of-the-foot finish into an open net.

That sharp, crisp passing from Chelsea has petered out now, it is getting rather slow and stodgy.

That will suit the home side.

Chelsea continue to try to work the openings but Southampton are sitting deep and frustrating the visitors.

They're not offering anything in the final third though and the pressure gauge keeps on ticking upwards.

Waheeey, Alex McCarthy has a save to make but Antonio Rudiger need not have bothered, drilling a long range drive straight down the throat of the Saints goalkeeper.

Graham Green: Southampton press high and hard, but they’re always leaving themselves open to the quick counter. It’s only a matter of time before Chelsea capitalise on this. Given Saints’ recent performances, that should open the floodgates. Not a great time to be a Saints fan.

Southampton are yet to have a touch in Chelsea's box, or a shot. Although Chelsea themselves have only had one shot so far.

Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso is down in the box - off the ball - with Jannik Vestergaard in close proximity.

But the Spaniard slips and twists his ankle slightly, though VAR had a look at the incident to see if there was something more sinister.

    There was not.

Thomas Tuchel is furious, at Timo Werner it seems, who has a yard of space on the edge of the area but decides to pass it wide instead of having a crack himself and the chance is lost.

Tuchel is a no-nonsense character, he will keep these Blues players on their toes.

New manager is actually a myth. Chelsea have just got lucky and had easy games. They still look bang average
