Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp tells BBC Sport: "It is (tough to take) but we conceded this early goal which was completely unnecessary and have to defend it better. We had to chase the game and did it well creative wise, we created some in the first half and even more in the second half but we did not finish our situations off.

"We made one mistake in the first half and they used it. I don't like to talk today about the good stuff because we lose the game and we feel that deeply, I have to use it tomorrow and it is our lifeline to keep going. We have to improve on the finishing stuff and then we will win football games.

"Decisive margins, to score a goal you have to create a situation and finish it off. There is no alternative but to keep going. You concede which is not cool, lose Jordan Henderson which is not cool and I feel the boys dealt with it quite well, could they deal with it better? Maybe. We will keep going."

On Everton's penalty: "I did not see it back but the kind of questions I get asked about it gives me a feeling it could have been decided differently. If the VAR calls the referee to the screen then maybe he saw it slightly wrong. He did not need a second, he looked and went. If you think it was not a penalty then you have to say that, we cannot change it anymore."

That stand is coming on a treat down by the Thames. Let's hope we'll be able to have fans in it in the reasonably near future.

What division will Fulham be in when that stand opens? Tonight might play a part in answering that one.

    Everton

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti speaking to Sky Sports: “I am very pleased for the club and the supporters. I hope for sure that they are going to celebrate tonight. It was a good performance. A lot of fight and spirit. I am really happy.

"We played with two strikers James Rodriguez and Richarlison and we played with [Seamus] Coleman to fix the position of Robertson and four at the back to control [Mohamed] Salah, [Sadio] Mane and [Roberto] Firmino.

“We wanted to avoid the pressure from Liverpool. We know they press a lot but sometimes we had the opportunity to play. Richarlison is back. He is scoring and is playing with a lot of consistency. He has that quality.

“We have to find more consistency at home and we are working on this. We are fighting for Europe and now we are in a good position. This kind of performance helps to improve the belief of the team.

“Jordan [Pickford] did really well. He accepted the criticism. You have to do that and try to be better and he did it.”

If Everton can sort out that home form they will be in business.

They have won eight of their 12 away league games this season (D2 L2); only in 2008-09 have they won more on the road in a Premier League campaign (nine).

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti tells BBC Sport: "We are really happy, really pleased. After a long time Everton are able to win at Anfield, it is a good gift for our supporters. The performance was good, we were focussed, worked hard and when we had the opportunities we were clinical.

"A beautiful combination between Richarlison and James Rodriguez and that first goal helped us to have more confidence in this game.

"Jordan Pickford did really well and also the defence. When you come to Anfield you have to defend, they are still a fantastic team but we defended properly.

"We have three points, the derby is a special game as we said before but we have to catch three points at home too. It is not good enough at home."

I watched the first Merseyside derby when Thiago made his debut, thought he looked great. After the last few games I think he's been one of Liverpool's worst signings, very low risk passing, always sideways, backwards or to a player standing next to him.

Everton defender Seamus Coleman tells BBC Sport: "It means a lot to us all, we are starting to get a bunch of players in the dressing room who are not tied down with that baggage. A great for us, the fans and the Everton fans within the club. Delighted.

"When you have a world class manager in the dugout, you fully believe in these games, he spoke about how he did for Napoli.

"Once you are part of this club, you know the history about winning here and the last time we won a cup. We need to tidy up a little bit when they come to Goodison Park, we are still working.

"The mindset has to change and it is, not to just be beating Liverpool but being successful in our own right. I keep saying it, on a day to day basis we have to be professional and believe in the process, We cannot turn it on and off like in the last few weeks."

Everton full-back Seamus Coleman speaking to Sky Sports: "It’s an amazing feeling, after coming here all those years and letting ourselves and more importantly letting the blue side of the city down. It’s been hard. We can try and brush it off but when you have lived in the city for 10 years it has been difficult to take.

"I am fed up with coming out with the same clichés after losing. I’d thank the manager for the way he set us up and the players put in an unbelievable shift. That was against the champions, so we are delighted.

"I had to follow Andrew Robertson. The last time I had a job like that was against Ashley Cole at Stamford Bridge. He’s a great player and I tried to stay with him.

"As a team it was just to compete and try and play. Dom [Calvert-Lewin] came on and made a difference. We need to start moving the club forward that goes back to the likes of Fulham at home."

    Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum tells Sky Sports: "You know what the derby means for the club, the supporters, the players - it means a lot and the loss is extra painful.

"The first goal we conceded, we tried to keep possession when the long ball came instead of clearing it away. In the first couple of minutes you should take less risk, a pass through the defence and they scored. One more chance after that and we were the better team.

"Losing players during the season upset us a lot. We cannot play the victims, we have to deal with the situation and not feel sorry for ourselves. We have to give until the end of the season, it is painful and you could see if on the faces of the players. That is the situation we are in right now and we have to deal with it.

"Winning games in the Premier League is always difficult and the injuries don't make it easier, we still have a squad who can change it around and we have to work harder to change it around."

Liverpool have equalled the club league record of four consecutive home defeats, set from November to December 1923 in the top flight.

Liverpool equalled the top flight record for the longest home losing streak by a reigning champion - four by the Reds themselves from November to December 1923 and Everton from March to April 1929.

Liverpool have now lost four successive Premier League fixtures at Anfield, directly following a 68-match league home unbeaten run (W55-D13-L0).
