    Everton 1-3 Manchester City

    Everton

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti to BBC Sport: "It was hard, almost impossible. We were in the game for an hour and we fought.

"When they scored the second goal it was very dificult. They are the best team and we are not at the same level. They don't have only quality, they are also strong.

"At the moment they are the best team, they have quality, power, belief. It is very difficult to compete with them.

"It will be a different game against Liverpool. We are on a good run away and we believe more. Liverpool are a fantastic team but in football you never know.

"Yerry Mina won't be able to play at the weekend."

  4. 'The derby is a special game'published at 22:34 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2021

    Everton

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti tells Amazon: "Yeah starting to believe at 1-1 and the game for an hour was difficult, they showed fantastic quality but we were in the game, worked hard but after the second goal it was the key point in the game and were not able to get back.

"First is the quality, they found a fantastic combination and Riyad Mahrez shot fantastically.

Lost to the champions? "I think so, it is really difficult to say another name. Manchester City in this moment are in a good move, they have fantastic quality, they have belief, they are strong because we tried to put the game on a strong side but it was difficult against Rodri, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte.

Best team you have faced this season? Yeah, congratulations to them."

"They are able to play really well with the ball and work hard without it, they do not give you much possibilities to play, the effort of all the players was really high.

"Yerry Mina I don't think he is going to play (against Liverpool), we have to look at Dominic Calvert-Lewin and prepare well for the next game. It is a great opportunity, we don't have to have regrets tonight, the regrets was against Fulham. We know how much the next game is important for that supporters and will do all we need to to get the result on Saturday.

"The derby is a special game and away we have a good run so we hope for this."

    Everton 1-3 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to BBC Sport: "They are well organised, but we had the patience to attack them. It was well deserved.

"That is our identity. When you win a lot of games everyone wants to beat you and it is tricky. I have not seen that the team is thinking of the table, we have spoken about that. We are not here to defend our lead, it is all about three points, three points.

"There are 42 points still to fight for, we are in the middle of February. Now we rest for a few days, there are so many games.

"Kevin and Sergio are back, it is incredible news for us."

  8. 'Football is not about defensive, offensive'published at 22:25 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2021

    Everton 1-3 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola tells Amazon: "A real tough game, pitch in not perfect condition in winter and they are so physical team. A solid performance, the guys run like way we have to do and three points.

"We have the quality up front but it comes through the passes and when we arrive in the final third we want to attack too quick, we have to have patient. The second goal is a an example of that, if you can't find (the opening), make an extra pass.

"Sometimes Riyad Mahrez plays left, sometimes right, it depends on the decisions for the team.

"Football is not about defensive, offensive, you cannot win titles (without a good defence) and we have concede few goals and few chances. This team (Everton) scored three at Old Trafford and five against Spurs and a team that can create chances.

"Sometimes our full-backs attack wider, it depends on the opponents. Not all the full-backs can play inside, it depends on the skills of everyone.

Asked about being 10 points clear at the top: "Arsenal next, that is for sure."

All over bar the shouting? Or does anyone out there think that Manchester City will not be champions again this year?

Oh, and before any Everton fans have a go at me for leaving them out of this graphic (as they have before) - it only shows six teams.

The Toffees are seventh with 37 points.

Manchester City haven’t trailed for a single minute in any of their last 16 Premier League games, since a 2-0 reverse at Tottenham.

The only team with a longer run of games without falling behind in Premier League history is Arsenal between December 1998 and May 1999 (19 in a row).

    Everton 1-3 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez to Amazon: "It was a good performance, we played good again. It is a shame to concede the goal in the first half but we haven't conceded many.

"We tried to pass and move to find space to score the goal. We [himself and Bernardo Silva] have always had a good connection, we don't even need to speak to each other we know where we are. We all know each other.

"We train so well we know the movement. When you keep winning and scoring goals the confidence grows. It is difficult for the opponent. We are in a very good moment.

"I don't know about the title we only think about the next game - Arsenal."

If Gareth Southgate thinks Pickford is the best GK in the country he is just not watching football like the rest of us.

    Alan, Horsham

Man City are like the All Blacks (especially in this black away kit) in that they have this seemingly effortless way of putting the opposition away even when they're not particularly playing well. You think you're matching them and then suddenly they've scored without you quite knowing how. The truth is that they are playing exceptionally well - but they're like a Swiss watch. Every single action is perfectly calibrated.
