Brilliant day for Saints, in a game where they had to come here and get a result. They've showed real desire against this Sheffield United team who look all but beaten in their quest to stay in the Premier League. They look like they've really come up against it now, they've got nothing left to give.

It's all over. Southampton stop the rot with a first win in 10 Premier League games and move closer to survival.

Sheffield United, who fail to build on a rare win in their last game, look doomed.

That was a poor tackle from John Fleck. They're the type of injuries that can really hurt you - it was a petulant tackle and the Southampton players reacted in a way that shows they want to protect their player.

There's no doubt that Fleck knew he wasn't going to get the ball, maybe he hoped he would but in that case he knew he was going in to get the player - Southampton players knew exactly what Fleck was trying to do.

Three minutes added on - although we're halfway through it.

There is a brief VAR check to see if John Fleck should have sent off for that tackle or there were any red-card offences in that melee. VAR says no.

Sheffield United's Oliver McBurnie and Southampton's Jannik Vestergaard are booked for their parts in that minor brawl.

It was an important day for Southampton - to come here and be positive and show that they're a good team. They were unfortunate in the end to have lost against Everton, the draw against Chelsea, there have been some positive signs.

Ralph Hasenhuttl will be delighted with today they've been positive, first to every ball, they've created a number of opportunities and they actually could be ahead further.

Sheffield United have had 61.5% of the ball in the second half but they've done nothing with it. They've only forced Fraser Forster into two saves all day.

Oli McBurnie has won a lot of headers since he's been on - he's just manhandling the players around him. Sheffield United should be trying to play off that a bit better - good strikers expect the positive and to react from positive play. Just as defenders should always expect the worst strikers should always expect the best from each other.

I'm not seeing that from Sheffield United at the moment, they need to work a bit better in tandem together.

John Fleck takes a corner for Sheffield United and Oli McBurnie gets a head to it. Fraser Forster just clutches the ball from the sky.

Honestly Southampton could have scored five here easily. Stuart Armstrong just glides across the edge of the Blades box and shoots just wide.

Nathan Redmond has a chance to score with his first touches. He's picked out in the same position and space as Che Adams a couple of minutes ago but the result is the same, an Aaron Ramsdale save.

Southampton make an all-Nathan substitution. Redmond replaces Tella, who won the penalty and had an impressive game.

Southampton have had quite a few chances to seal this game. Che Adams has the freedom of Sheffield as he controls a long ball on the right wing and cuts into the box. His shot is straight at the keeper though.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith makes three changes from the side that started their 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United in midweek. Anwar El Ghazi misses out and Marvelous Nakamba and Jacob Ramsey drop to the bench.
