    FT: Spurs 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

More from Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson speaking to BBC Sport: "The first goal is one of those goals you hate to see against your team because it was a clear error from Luka Milivojevic which he understand and accepts. But it's not one he makes very often. It was quickly punished.

"After that the other three goals were very, very good.

"In particular the third one is one of those which, without defending badly at all, it's pretty hard to stop that wonder strike of Harry's going into the far side."

    FT: Spurs 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson speaking to BBC Sport: “I’m not good at taking positive from a game when I have seen the team lose by four goals to one. I thought we were heavily punished by the quality of the goals and some of the quality of play in the final third.

“I think on another day we may not have been punished quite as harshly. And also with some of the play in the second half we might have added to the goal we scored, which was a good goal.

“I thought we came across a Tottenham team tonight that is fine form. They had all their star players and their really good quality players firing on all cylinders.

“As a result they overwhelmed us at time and won the game as result of it.”

  4. 'Bale needs to enjoy this positivity'published at 21:53 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    FT: Spurs 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Perfect week - three matches, nine points. The game was very good, we were very dominant, we were fluid, fast, dynamic, great movement, beautiful goals, lots of creativity - very happy."

Got the confidence back? "I believe so - we can see that when you concede a goal in the last minute of the first half and start the second half very positive without a scar from conceding that goal, the players have a lot of confidence in this moment."

On Harry Kane's goal: "It was an amazing goal - when I saw the ball leave his foot I knew where it was going, the trajectory was incredible. Amazing goal."

On Gareth Bale: "Time for you to speak with Gareth Bale - he needs to enjoy the positive talk with everybody that was doubting his first half of the season. He's playing very well and working hard for the team."

On front three: "Well the front six or seven are all great, all the other guys are very good players and even on the bench we always have very good players - Dele Alli is coming back strong, played a good game against Fulham, played Lucas Moura instead today. Erik Lamela replaced Bale and was very good to the boys in this group are very close and everyone is working very well in the week."

    FT: Spurs 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Tottenham Hotspur

Jose Mourinho speaking to BBC Sport about Gareth Bale: "I didn’t challenge him, nobody challenged him. We just supported him.

"I found psychological scars. When you have a couple of seasons with lots of injuries I think it is not about the muscular scars but the psychological scars - that brings fears and instability.

“There is a moment when you are working very well and everyone around you is giving everything we can give, there is a moment where that psychological barrier has to be broken. And he broke it. It was him, not us. We just supported him. He broke it and is playing very well.

"I’m very happy, he is a fantastic player and I’m so happy to work with a player like him."

  6. 'I'm happy with the goal we conceded'published at 21:43 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    FT: Spurs 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho to BBC Sport: "They were good goals. Harry's first one was magnificent. We played good football.

"It looks a silly to say but I’m happy with the goal we conceded. My feeling in the 10 minutes of the first half was that if we finished 1-0 then maybe we would start the second half the same way.

"We lost a little bit of the hunger and desire to attack. We were too passive, we were in control. We made one mistake and conceded a goal. So I had a positive feeling when we conceded.

"In the second half we had to go with everything. Then it was the feeling that a one-goal difference is not enough, and then we made it 2-1 and went for 3-1 immediately after.

"I was happy with the attitude, the feeling and naughty smile of scoring 100 goals in the season and we are a defensive team.

"It was a good week for us - three matches, nine points, no injuries and everyone is coming back.

"We are in a positive moment."

  7. 'We've got to lick those wounds'published at 21:40 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Spurs 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson to Sky Sports: "We felt we were back in the game at half-time but those two goals early in the second half - goals of great quality – it was always going to be difficult.

"It’s good to see Christian Benteke getting in that position. We’ve tried to encourage him to get in the centre.

"As Harry Kane said to me after the game they took their chances very well.

"Spurs were really good value for their victory. We were heavily punished by the quality of their goals. We lost 4-1. We’ve got to lick those wounds and any lessons, we’ve got a week to work on it.

"We’ve made one or two things clear to the group on what necessary going forward. We’ve got 20 very important games. This is a very tight league. We need to get ourselves fully back on track.

"I’d rather be in our position than Fulham’s. Eight points might not sound very much but it takes a lot of getting. I'm not concerned in that respect but I’m aware if you are not careful and think your work is done you can easily lose game after game."

  8. 'We need to take care because we need Bale'published at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Spurs 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Spurs boss Jose Mourinho to Sky Sports: "Gareth and Harry scored some incredible goals. Son works so hard for the team. Even the guys coming from the bench, great attitude. I love when a player comes off bench and improves team.

"All credit is for Gareth Bale. I trust him and his judgement in his body and feelings. We never want him to go into high levels of fatigue. Even after 55 and 60 minutes we’re in contact. The plan is to take him off when the first feelings of fatigue arrive. Players can normally cope with it and can finish a match exhausted. In his case we need to take care because we need him. In this moment he’s giving so much for the team."

  9. Postpublished at 21:31 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Spurs 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho to Sky Sports: "When you concede in the last minute of the first half, the tendency is to go into the dressing room with bad feelings and start the second half moaning about the goal.

"The way the team started the second half shows a little bit, the team is happier, is playing better, doesn’t feel that negative pressure. It was a good week for us. Next week we have a crucial match in the Europa League and derby against Arsenal, nothing could be better for us than winning all nine points this week.

"I told them at half-time I was very happy with the goal we conceded. They think I was crazy. It was proof to the players if you lose control and start dropping, they have one, two three crosses and it’s difficult to keep a clean sheet.

"That 1-1 put us in a position where we had to go forward. Because of the feeling of the first half, it was about 2-1, 3-1, and not 2-1 and drop back. I think I passed the feeling to the players. They were relaxed and optimistic."

  10. Postpublished at 21:30 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    FT: Spurs 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace goalscorer Christian Benteke said: "We played a top side tonight and we got punished for mistakes.

"When you come back against a top side just before half-time you should start the second half with some confidence, to be more brave on the ball and we didn’t. When you concede after five minutes in the second half it becomes difficult.

"You have to keep going. We all know the games at the end of the season are always tough because all the teams are playing for Champions League or relegation, but I know we have the squad to win games."

Tottenham goalscorer Gareth Bale, speaking to Sky Sports: “I think that is why I came here, the attacking players we have is amazing. Not just the ones who played tonight but ones on the bench. We are all pushing each other and it’s good to get the three points.

"There is a lot of fighting for places so you have to stay on your toes and have to keep working hard. We are in good moment now, getting the confidence back so hopefully we can keep it going.

"I feel good, it takes a bit of time sometimes but I'm experienced enough to be patient.

On linking up with Kane, who scored twice and set him up for both his goals: "He’s fantastic, an incredible striker. He showed that again tonight and he has been so consistent. It was a fantastic performance again from him and we are lucky to have him here."

    Spurs 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs goalscorer Gareth Bale to BBC Sport: "We know they're a difficult team to play against. The second half we started strong and had control of the game. I felt like we were comfortable and confident to see the game out.

"I'm feeling good. A lot of games are coming thick and fast so it's about recovering and getting ready for the next one.

"I'm happy to contribute and help the team get three points.

"We want to build our confidence and keep this run going.

"I wouldn't have come if I didn't think I could contribute. It's taken time but that's the reality of football and my body. I feel good now, hopefully I can keep this form going."

Whilst Alan Shearer did win the league with Blackburn most people remember the 260 premier league goals more

    Andy

Kane has got 2 EPL golden boots, a World Cup golden boot and is on course to be England record scorer. I'm sure the Carabao cups adds to that haul, but I'm not sure he'd swap it!

    Matt

Don't have to win something to be remembered as a great player (Matt le Tissier, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink spring to mind) but it'd certainly be a massive shame for a player of Kane's quality if he didn't. Think he will have a hard decision to make this summer or next

Excellent from Tottenham - Jose Mourinho will be really happy and so will the fans. Attacking they were a different class, Gareth Bale and Son Heung-min were great and Harry Kane in particular was outstanding, he led the line well. He dropped into those little pockets and made things happen. It was a really professional performance from Tottenham.
