The camera is currently focused on Matt Ritchie as he goes through his pre-match warm ups. The midfielder starts today's game on the bench for Newcastle.

Ritchie apologised earlier this week for a training ground bust-up with head coach Steve Bruce. Ritchie was frustrated with Bruce's post-match comments following Saturday's 1-1 draw with Wolves.

Bruce suggested substitute Ritchie had not passed on information from the touchline seconds before the visitors scored their equaliser.

West Brom v Newcastle (12:00 GMT)

    Andy Reid
Ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

With what’s happened at Newcastle this week with the leak, it doesn’t make for a nice atmosphere – the best places I’ve been at are the ones where you look forward to going in, you look forward to training and seeing your team mates and it’s obviously it like that at Newcastle and unfortunately for them now it’s bleeding out onto the pitch.

They’re struggling on the pitch and they don’t heed that, they need everyone to be pulling in the same direction and they’re now in a very precarious position, they’re under severe pressure.

Sam Allardyce will be all about business today as he looks to boost his West Brom side's rapidly diminishing hopes of Premier League survival, but he'll surely be keen for a win on a personal level.

Allardyce was sacked after eight months and just 24 games in charge of Newcastle back in January 2008 after a promising start gave way to a poor run of form.

Whether Allardyce finds a bit more motivation against Newcastle is hard to say, but his record against them as a manager is impressive - he has won 13 league meetings against his former club, two more than versus any other opponent.

Gotta say, Leo. I don’t think that’s Parker's cup of tea. I think Scott would rather do something like, wander round the wildfowl park in Pepperstock.

Things could look very different at the bottom of the table by the end of the day.

    Good morning!

I'll admit, the relentless churn of Premier League football has worn me down a couple of times this season but today I'm really excited for what's coming up in the Premier League.

It feels like the final episode of Line of Duty, when just as you think you've got it all figured out, a big twist comes along and shakes everything up.

Could that be the case today? We'll see. Here's the schedule of fixtures:

West Brom v Newcastle (12:00 GMT)

    Liverpool v Fulham (14:00)

Man City v Man Utd (16:30)

    Tottenham v Crystal Palace (19:15)

  17. A day of intrigue, twists and turns ahead?published at 10:43 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

Today has the feeling of being a bit of a defining one for many of the Premier League teams in action.

Defining for West Brom and Newcastle - both in their bid for survival and, in the case of the latter, for their under pressure manager.

Defining for the wounded title holders, and for an improving side with the chance to finally move out of the relegation places.

And defining for the two title hopefuls - one who could take a massive step towards fending off all other challengers in their pursuit of the Premier League trophy, the other who will hope to keep their fading hopes of challenging alive.

Intrigue, twists and turns - today's football promises much. Let's hope it delivers.
