Burnley want a penalty. Mee goes up with Holgate and the ball clearly hits his arm. You can't say it was in a natural position. When you see some of the penalties that have been awarded this season, you have to say the Clarets have a good case. They don't get the spot-kick, though.

Chris Wood has the bit between his teeth. They move the ball back to front quickly to find the striker, who brings the ball down and then slices his shot from range just wide.

Burnley try to release Vydra in behind the Everton defence with a curling, long-range pass. Pickford is quickly off his line to beat the Clarets striker to the ball.

Soon after, advantage as played as Richarlison is sandwiched by two players but Everton are unable to make anything of it.

Chris Wood has now scored in back-to-back Premier League games for the first time this season. Timely.

Well that should liven things up a bit. Everton need a win here if they are to keep that top-four pursuit up.

Things happen when Richarlison gets hold of the ball. He drives at pace towards the Burnley box but his pass, designed to give Calvert-Lewin a shot at goal, is a touch too heavy, allowing Pope to slide out to gather.

The home side continue to apply pressure, forcing a corner that breaks to the edge of the area and is hammered by Tom Davies, but blocked by a Burnley man.

Everton controlling possession. They try to get Dominic Calvert-Lewin in behind the Burnley defence but Pope comes a long way to hammer the ball into the stands ahead of the striker.

Everton respond and draw a save from Nick Pope. It's all Richarlison's work with the Brazilian carrying the ball - Burnley players backing off - before firing a shot on target that the Clarets keeper has to push behind.

The resulting corner is dealt with by the visitors.

Encouraging start.

No messing about from Burnley. A long ball forward is brought down by the pillow-like boot of Matej Vydra, who then tries to lay it off to the onrushing Johann Burg Gudmundsson. He's got a shot in mind but can't connect properly because of his marker. Chance gone.

Premier League game number three of this fine Saturday is very much on.

It's an odd old season for Everton. They are on 46 points, just three short of last season's total and with 11 games still to play.

However, six of the Toffees' nine league defeats this season have come at Goodison Park. The only time in the past 14 seasons they have fared worse at home was their eight losses in 2015-16.

They have also conceded 20 Premier League goals at home this season. They let in 21 in total at Goodison Park in both 2018-19 and 2019-20.

Finally, they have scored only seven goals in their past 10 home league matches.
