    Huddersfield 0-0 Cardiff

Aden Flint rattles the crossbar after intercepting a Harry Wilson shot, but the defender is ruled to be offside. It was a bad miss and it didn't look clearly offside, so Flint has had his blushes spared there as he should have scored.

  2. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Huddersfield 0-0 Cardiff

Will Vaulks, who throws a ball further than I can kick it, has launched a couple of his Rory Delap specials into the box, but the hosts have dealt with the threat really well.

Wayne Rooney's Derby County? Not. So. Much. They looked terrified by it in midweek.

  3. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Huddersfield 0-0 Cardiff

The cameras pan to Jonathan Hogg in the stands.

The hosts haven't kept a clean sheet this season without the injured defensive midfielder.

Will this game end that run?

  4. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Huddersfield 0-0 Cardiff

Midway through the first half and I think both managers will be pretty happy with how things are going so far, though chances have been scarce.

  5. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Huddersfield 0-0 Cardiff

Lots of space for the hosts in wide areas and they are really testing the two inexperienced Cardiff wing-backs.

Cardiff started the better side but Huddersfield are currently getting a foothold and look threatening.

  6. CLOSE!published at 14 mins

    Huddersfield 0-0 Cardiff

Juninho Bacuna just had a dip for a freekick a good 25-yards out and Dillon Phillips had to shuffle across to palm it away as he dived to his left.

    A fine effort.

  8. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Huddersfield 0-0 Cardiff

First chance for the hosts after some neat build-up, but Lewis O'Brien's shot was blocked and easy enough for Dillon Phillips to gather.

  9. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Huddersfield 0-0 Cardiff

Been a fast start for Cardiff so far, they look like a side unsurprisingly brimming with confidence. Ten games unbeaten will do that for you.

  10. CLOSE!published at 3 mins

    Huddersfield 0-0 Cardiff

First chance for the hosts as Aden Flint heads the ball across goal and Sean Morrison gets a shot in, but Ryan Schofield was out quickly to block.

  11. Postpublished at 2 min

    Huddersfield 0-0 Cardiff

Aden Flint suffers an early bang to the head in a challenge with Yaya Sanogo but is ok to continue.

  13. Stats the way to write a pun headlinepublished at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2021

    Huddersfield v Cardiff (19:45 GMT)

Here are some stats about tonight's game, which suggests it could be a long night for Huddersfield, but on the other hand, suggest it could be a long night for Cardiff.

Basically I read the stats and now expect both teams to lose.

    • In all competitions, Huddersfield are winless in 14 meetings with Cardiff (D4 L10) since a 1-0 victory in the third tier in January 2003 under Mick Wadsworth.
    • Cardiff have won three of their last four league visits to Huddersfield (D1), as many as their previous 33 such trips beforehand (W3 D9 L21).
    • Huddersfield are looking to defeat both Cardiff and Swansea in the same league season for the first time since 1994-95, having beaten Swansea 4-1 in February.
    • Cardiff have won none of their last nine away league games played on a Friday (D4 L5) since a 4-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in December 2012.

  14. Handball rule changedpublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2021

    Huddersfield v Cardiff (19:45 GMT)

Accidental handball that leads to a goal-scoring chance or a goal for a team-mate will no longer be penalised, say football's law makers.

Ifab confirmed the change on Friday, saying it was because of the "interpretation of handball incidents" not being applied consistently.

The change is likely to be introduced in England from 1 July.

  15. Bennett out for seasonpublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2021

    Huddersfield v Cardiff (19:45 GMT)

It wasn't all good news for Cardiff as they hammered Wayne Rooney's Derby County in midweek as defender Joe Bennett suffered a serious knee injury.

Cardiff say scans show Bennett, 30, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and that he will now see a specialist.

Everyone in football will be wishing him a speedy recovery.

  16. Last time outpublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2021

    Huddersfield v Cardiff (19:45 GMT)

Championship strugglers Huddersfield Town and Birmingham City played out a poor 1-1 draw that did little to help either side's worries at the foot of the table in midweek.

Cardiff continued their winning ways, thumping "Wayne Rooney's Derby County" to give them their full title, 4-0.

  17. McCarthy was in demandpublished at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2021

    Huddersfield v Cardiff (19:45 GMT)

Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy signed a new two-year contract with the Bluebirds despite, or perhaps because of, competition for his signature from other clubs.

Media speculation had linked McCarthy with the vacant job at Scottish giants Celtic, among others.

"I know he did (catch the eye of other clubs). I wasn't too worried," Cardiff chief executive Mehmet Dalman told BBC Radio Wales Breakfast.

You can read more of Dalman's interview here.

  18. 1000 not out for Mick McCarthypublished at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2021

    Huddersfield v Cardiff (19:45 GMT)

It's a big week for Mick McCarthy.

Tonight is his 1000th game as a manager, he joins a pretty select club in reaching the milestone.

Sam Allardyce, Carlo Ancelotti, Roy Hodgson, Neil Warnock and now you can add McCarthy to the list of managers currently batting at over 1000 not out.

McCarthy himself didn't know tonight was the night, but he forgot about the Anglo-Italian Cup games he managed Millwall in during the early 90s.

What's the best way to celebrate? Well you'd need a huge cake for 1000 candles and it'd pose a fire risk, so Mick instead opted for some job stability and a new contract.

Here is a photo with Mick and a former player of his who I presume he continued to have a good relationship with forever.

  19. Team news - Wilson returns but Ng missingpublished at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2021

    Huddersfield v Cardiff (19:45 GMT)

Harry Wilson and Josh Murphy are recalled to the starting XI by Mick McCarthy after dropping to the bench in midweek.

Joel Bagan starts in place of the injured Joe Bennett, more on that shortly, and Tom Sang starts at right wing-back over January signing Perry Ng, who is not included on the bench. Sang will make his league debut for Cardiff after a loan spell at Cheltenham Town.

  20. Team news - Huddersfield make three changespublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2021

    Huddersfield v Cardiff (19:45 GMT)

Huddersfield Town have made three changes from their 1-1 draw against Birmingham, with Richard Keogh, Aaron Rowe and Yaya Sanogo coming in for Richard Stearman, Duane Holmes and Isaac Mbenza.

Former Cardiff City striker Fraizer Campbell starts against his former club.
