    Two major trophies in seven years is a very decent haul - better than any other side in Scotland outside of Celtic.

    We can't have a glory day for St Johnstone without hearing from no.1 celebrity fan and Off The Ball co-host Stuart Cosgrove.

    The broadcaster and author, who was working for Saints TV, tells BBC Sportsound: "We don't get a lot of trips to Hampden so this feels really special.

    "I thought we played well and contained Livingston and we really opened things up at the start of the second half.

    "A lot of people of my generation thought we wouldn't get another shot at this so to be here is incredible.

    "Shaun Rooney has been a revelation. One of the odd things about it was he came here on a pre-contract from Inverness. Danny McNamara had to go back to Millwall when he would have been our player of the season. But it's allowed us to unearth Rooney.

    "Callum Davidson grew up in Dunblane he's been a Saints supporter all of his days. There's been a feeling that he's been a manger in waiting and I think that was the right move. He hasn't change things too much since Tommy Wright left."

    St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson has been addressing the heartbreak he feels at missing out today, having also been absent for the 2014 Scottish Cup final, but he is full of pride and admiration for his team-mates.

    "2014 was probably easier because I'd been injured since January," he tells BBC Sportsound. "Whereas it was touch and go right up until the middle of this week. These last few weeks have been my hardest in football. I'd be lying if I didn't say it hurt me but I'm buzzing for my team-mates and everyone at the club.

    "It was my decision not to play today because it wasn't right. I didn't want to go out there 20% fit and let anyone down. Those two or three days after that when I knew I wasn't going to be playing were really difficult. But I'm strong enough to get over that.

    "I said I didn't need to go up (for the medals and cup presentation) but they made me and it means a lot. I feel part of it."

  7. Rooney makes the most of his chance

    Shaun Rooney was the hero for St Johnstone, knocking in the only goal and picking up the man-of-the-match prize.

    Remember, he wasn't first pick in that wide right position in the first half of the season and might not have had the chance to impress there if Danny McNamara had not been recalled from his loan by Millwall.

  8. 'This can't define our season' - Martindale

    "I don't think there was a lot between the two teams," says a disappointed Livingston manager David Martindale.

    "Being honest I thought St Johnstone defended their box really well, it's as simple as that.

    "I think Rooney is one of St Johnstone's strongest points, we're a bit light in that area but you strip the game back and it doesn't really matter who was playing left back, we lost the game from a goal from a set-piece.

    "I don't think the occasion got to the boys. I'd rather give St Johnstone credit for how they pressed us and managed the game.

    "I just told the boys to bottle up that feeling they have right now but I'm proud of them. You don't always get everything in life. This can't define our season. I will move on from this and try to secure top six as fast as we can. That's got to be the aim now."

  9. Davidson hails St Johnstone's 'fighting spirit'

    St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson can be very pleased with himself after picking up a major trophy in his first season as a boss in the dugout.

    "Really tough game, it wasn't the prettiest to watch but I thought we weathered the storm and we played well, particularly in the second half," he tells BBC Sportsound.

    "You always worry when you dominate the game and don't score another. But that fighting spirit that we showed was magnificent.

    "It's a young back three, Shaun Rooney is young too. Liam Craig was brilliant in his first final. I can trust every player in the squad.

    "Tommy Wright, my predecessor, he worked really hard behind the scenes too. Everyone does here. I'm just gutted we can't share this with the fans in Perth but we've still got to enjoy the moment as much as we can. I'm over the moon."

    St Johnstone captain Jason Kerr is all smiles as he carries the League Cup round an empty Hampden.

    The 24-year-old is such an assured defender.

    I wonder if Scotland boss Steve Clarke is keeping an eye on him? We do have a shortage of right-sided centre-halves after all.
