Well neither team in the South Wales derby has won the double still, as Aden Flint's early header gives Cardiff City the bragging rights.

Steve Cooper's Swansea gave it everything in the second-half today, but a combination of heroic defending and poor finishing hands Mick McCarthy's Cardiff the three points.

The result moves the Bluebirds within four points of the play-off places, while Swansea remain six points off second-place Watford.

The teams can take some time to reflect now as the Championship pauses for the international break.

Swansea City head coach Steve Cooper told Sky Sports: "We've conceded a really soft goal and it's a cruel games, we've done everything except score.

"It's a difficult one to take, to lose like that is doubly difficult, but we've got to stick together and stay positive.

"We've been waiting to get to the end of this 10 game run and have a break.

"We're not looking for sympathy, everyone has had a tough schedule, we're still in a positive place with nine games to go.

"Today hurts, but we have to get over it and look forward.

"There were a lot of blocks but also chances we should have done better with, we played some brilliant football but it is about the result.

"We won't be changing anything, we'll stick to the plan."

Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy told Sky Sports: "I'm delighted for the lads because they put a real shift in.

"We knew how they would play, we needed a game plan, and the bragging rights were at stake too.

"Sean Morrison has been a fabulous defender here ever since he's been here, and I don't know how many blocks he's got and headers he has won today.

"We've got a real weapon with the long throw and powerful players that can cause problems in the box.

"It's so important because we've relied on Kieffer Moore and he can't score in every week.

"We've got two weeks now to enjoy this victory and it's important for momentum to be restored."

Cardiff City captain Sean Morrison told Sky Sports: "We owed the fans this one, we have been way off it the last three derbies.

"That was for all the fans that couldn't be here and everyone watching on television

"The statistic [no team ever doing the double] was a lot of pressure to carry, we don't want to be on the wrong side of history,

"Were we the better team with the ball? Probably not but we showed fight and determination.

"Aden Flint was due a goal, he's been brilliant since he's come back, I'm over the moon he's got his goal, and another clean sheet is massive.

"I think I pulled my calf after 15 minutes so I popped a few painkillers and got on with it.

"And we all dug in, that's what Cardiff is about, and as I say today was for the fans."
