  1. Rangers fans told 'stay at home'published at 11:55 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Dundee United v Celtic (12:00)

Justice secretary Humza Yousaf has this morning urged Rangers fans to obey the "stay at home" message for public health reasons.

Following yesterday's scenes at Ibrox, when fans defied lockdown rules, they are being advised not to gather if Rangers win the Scottish title today.

Rangers will take the title, of course, if Celtic fail to beat United.

Yousaf also warned Uefa would be paying "close attention" in anticipation of Euro 2020 finals games coming to Hampden.

  2. We have to focus on ourselves - Kennedypublished at 11:54 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Dundee United v Celtic (12:00)

Speaking to Sky Sports, interim Celtic manager John Kennedy says: "It's important we get back to the team we are. That's what we've not done this season.

"Our game is all about us and the performance levels we show. We know the situation, Rangers are almost there, but we need to focus on ourselves."

Talking about the return of Mo Elyounoussi in place of Patryk Klimala, he says: "Elyounoussi gives us more flexibility in our shape and he's probably third in the queue in terms of the best attacking players we have at the club, so we're happy to have him back."

Kennedy is also delighted to name fit-again Scotland winger James Forrest on the bench and adds: "He's trained well this week and felt comfortable enough to be involved today."

  3. Edouard Serie A bound?published at 11:48 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Dundee United v Celtic (12:00)

A report in today's Sunday Post suggests that Roma fear they will be gazumped in their pursuit of Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.

It suggests they will be able to meet the £20m asking price, but the fact they want to pay in instalments and could open the door to Serie A rivals AC Milan.

Meanwhile, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Leicester City have also registered an interest.

  5. Celtic inconsistency gives Rangers hopepublished at 11:36 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Dundee United v Celtic (12:00)

Rangers' hopes of ending the day as champions will rest on Celtic's inconsistency this season.

Celtic have won six of their last seven games, but the odd one out came in their last away outing, a 1-0 defeat away to a Ross County side who were bottom of the table at the time.

United's form has recovered a bit in recent weeks and, after a run of eight games without a win, they have now only lost once in their latest four outings.

They swept aside Livingston 3-0 in their last home game, but that was after four without a victory.

  6. United need points for top-six finishpublished at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Dundee United v Celtic (12:00)

The game is not only important for Celtic as they look to deny city rivals Rangers the title for another week.

United have their own ambitions and need a victory to keep alive their own hopes of finishing in the top six.

Micky Mellon's side are five points behind fifth-top Livingston, four adrift of St Mirren and two back from St Johnstone in that battle but have a game in hand over the two sides directly above them.

  7. Ton up for Siegristpublished at 11:26 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Dundee United v Celtic (12:00)

Swiss goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist, who began his career at Aston Villa and joined United in 2018, makes his 100th appearance for the Tannadice side today.

The 29-year-old has been lauded for some fine displays for the Tangerines that have had scouts flocking to Tayside.

  8. Clark starts for Unitedpublished at 11:22 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Dundee United v Celtic (12:00)

United manager Micky Mellon doesn't appear to be intent on playing defensively, with forward Nicky Clark restored to the starting line-up in place of the more conservative Adrian Sporle.

Midfielder Peter Pawlett returns from a two-match suspension but is on the bench.

  9. Forrest returns to bench, Elyounoussi startspublished at 11:17 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Dundee United v Celtic (12:00)

The big news for Celtic is not so much who is in their starting line-up but the fact that Scotland winger James Forrest makes his long-awaited return from injury and is named on the bench.

As for the starting line-up, caretaker John Kennedy makes only one change from the side that defeated Aberdeen 1-0 last weekend.

  11. Will Old Firm derby be real showdown?published at 11:10 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    Dundee United v Celtic (12:00)

Enough of events at Ibrox, there's a game needing played today and it must be remembered that Celtic could - in theory - still retain the title should they win all their remaining seven games and Rangers lose all theirs.

You would imagine the side now led by caretaker boss John Kennedy will be determined to delay Rangers' celebrations for as long as possible even if their hopes of a historic 10th title in a row has all but disappeared.

To do that, they have to win today. If they do, guess what comes next? Yes, one of those pesky Old Firm derbies at Celtic Park - on 21 March.

  12. Fans urged to 'stay humble and safe'published at 11:07 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    FT: Rangers 3-0 St Mirren

The breaking of lockdown rules over large gatherings, the limited use of masks and social distancing at Ibrox yesterday led to concerns being expressed by the Scottish government, national clinical director Jason Leitch and Police Scotland.

While there were no arrests, a government spokesman said it was "extremely disappointed, adding that "the actions of this minority of individuals jeopardises the safety of other supporters, the police on duty and the wider community".

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said the outpouring of emotion was understandable considering how long his club have had to wait for another title but added "It's important fans try to stay humble and safe".

It is also being suggested that Uefa is monitoring the situation, with Europe's governing body already considering whether Hampden will be able to go ahead with hosting games in this summer's delayed Euro 2020 finals.

There will no doubt be some trepidation in police and government circles about what might happen in terms of celebrations once Rangers do clinch the title.

  13. Fireworks lit up Govanpublished at 11:04 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

    FT: Rangers 3-0 St Mirren

In truth, they have already done a fair bit of celebrating down Govan way.

The debrit of flares, firecrackers and fireworks still littered the streets around Ibrox this morning after thousands of fans congregated before, during and after yesterday's 3-0 win over St Mirren.

In these times of pandemic, Steven Gerrard's side were limited to greeting their frenzied following through the Ibrox gates immediately after the final whistle before they and their manager shared their joy through the dressing-room windows.

  14. Will Celtic delay Rangers' title celebrations?published at 11:00 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2021

Celtic v Dundee United (12:00 GMT)

It's been nine years, nine months and 20 days since Rangers last won the Scottish title.

Now they are within 90 minutes of lifting the trophy for a 55th time.

Standing between them and those celebrations are old adversaries Celtic, with the reigning champions needing to win at Tannadice against Dundee United to delay what has seemed like the inevitable for a number of weeks.
