A wee scare for Rangers as Allan McGregor comes for it then changes his mind as Filip Helander tries to usher the ball back to his keeper. A Slavia player almost nips in but the defender is strong enough to see him off.

Rangers have started the game very sloppily, there's far too many loose passes. They need to sharpen up, they can't afford to concede a second here.

    Slavia Prague 1-0 Rangers

It's all been a bit scruffy from Rangers so far, with the ball being given away cheaply.

Lukas Provod darts in behind the visiting defence but Connor Goldson makes a good sliding block to divert the shot out for a corner.

What a finish. It's top quality. The way he opens up his body, Allan McGregor has no chance. That being said, he has far too much room on the edge of the box, there's not one Rangers player near him

    Slavia Prague v Rangers (17:55)

Speaking to BT Sport, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said his players enjoyed their title celebrations but must now refocus on a tough task.

"It's always nice to get back in your routine, the boys seem ready and in the right place, it will be a tough game but we feel ready," he says.

"They have to be ready, that's something I have to demand from them. We enjoyed the weekend a lot but there's still a lot to play for this season.

"Domestically, Slavia are unbeaten, they've just knocked Leicester out which was a big achievement. It gives us a bigger opportunity to impress, that's what I tell the players; 'go out there and express yourselves on this stage'."

Rangers hammered Royal Antwerp 9-5 on aggregate in the previous round and Alfredo Morelos was instrumental in eight of those goals, although he only got one himself.

The Colombian striker has been directly involved in 15 goals (nine goals & six assists) in 17 Europa League appearances since the start of last season, the most of any player.

Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara hasn’t missed a minute of Europa League action this season but he is a booking away from a suspension, along with substitute Kemar Roofe.

Slavia have four players balancing on the old suspension tightrope; captain Jan Boril, goalkeeper Ondrej Kolar, Lukas Provod and David Zima.

    Abdallah Sima

Someone in the Slavia scouting team should be getting a large bonus after Abdallah Sima was plucked from obscurity with Taborsko in the Czech third tier to become one of Europe's hottest properties this season. The 19-year-old Senegalese forward - with 15 goals in 24 games, including the killer second at Leicester City, is reported to be on the radar of West Ham United, Everton and Arsenal.

    Jan Kuchta

Jan Kuchta, 24, is Slavia's other main goal threat, with just two fewer than Sima. Also signed in the summer, this time from Slovan Liberec, he's notched nine in his last nine league games and will have to be closely watched by the Rangers rearguard.

    Lukas Provod

A man who provides goals (five) and assists (10), Lukas Provod can play in central midfield or on either flank. The 24-year-old featured for the Czech Republic in their 1-0 defeat by Scotland at Hampden last year and he got the ball rolling against Leicester.

  16. 'A dream to meet (and beat) Gerrard'published at 17:41 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2021

    Slavia Prague v Rangers (17:55)

Slavia Prague head coach Jindrich Trpisovsky was rather star struck at his media conference yesterday...

"I like watching the Scottish league because I like a physical, hard-working style, end-to-end fares. Rangers represent a prototype of such football for me," he said.

"It will be a dream come true to meet Steven Gerrard, never mind beat him in the last 16 of the Europa League."

  17. Rangers have 'major respect' for Slaviapublished at 17:39 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2021

    Slavia Prague v Rangers (17:55)

Slavia beat Leicester City to get here, drawing 0-0 at home in the first leg then winning 2-0 at the King Power.

The Czechs started in the Champions League but were well beaten by Midtjylland in qualifying. They also lost on their travels to Leverkusen and Hapoel Beer Sheva in their Europa League group, finishing second behind the Germans.

Steven Gerrard described Slavia’s performance against Leicester as “very strong”, adding: “We have major respect for the opposition, for the players, for the coach.”

Slavia's record against Scottish teams is poor too.

They lost 3-1 to St Mirren on aggregate in the 1985-86 Uefa Cup and were edged out 4-3 by Hearts in the same competition in 1992-93.

Rangers’ record against Czech sides is not great.

The Ibrox side have lost all three of their previous away legs and been eliminated on each occasion.

They fell to Dukla Prague in the 1981-82 Cup Winners' Cup, Sparta Prague in the 1991-92 European Cup and Viktoria Zizkov in the 2002-03 Uefa Cup.
