    Leicester 0-0 Southampton

Danny Ings drives towards the box and goes down under close attention from Wilfred Ndid. Southampton fans in the stands scream for a free kick but nothing is given. Replays show he did go down a bit too easily.

The game has gone from tepid to simmering nicely now, though.

  2. CLOSE!published at 28 mins

    Leicester 0-0 Southampton

Best move of the game so far as Leicester attack quickly with some sharp, precise passes exchanged between Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez to cut through the defence. Perez then sends the ball to the far post but just over Kelechi Iheanacho.

    Leicester 0-0 Southampton

Nathan Redmond tries to get onto the end of a Danny Ings flick but it was always going to be a big ask.

Not much doing for either side so far. Leicester City have shown a bit more urgency but it is all very scrappy and lacking in excitement.

Southampton have been strangely lacking in intensity so far.

Chris Clee: Saints playing as we did last week. Almost like no one cares. Not a single player looks like they want this. Leicester look like they can go up a couple of gears and I guarantee Hassenhuttl hasn't got a Plan B.

    Leicester 0-0 Southampton

Jamie Vardy finds a yard of space on the edge of the area and has a pop but his shot deflects behind but he then catches Jannik Vestergaard and Southampton have a free kick.

Southampton giving the ball away and then when you do that you're out of shape and Jan Bednarek was on his own and had to deal with that and he did it very well. Ayoze Perez has to pick out a team mate better there though because it was a good opportunity.

    Leicester 0-0 Southampton

Nathan Redmond digs a cross deep to the far post but he's unable to find a team-mate. That was, at least, the first sight of Southampton venturing towards the Leicester box.

  9. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Leicester 0-0 Southampton

Good work by James Ward-Prowse to cut out a Richardo Pereira ball - it could have been dangerous had it got through.

There haven't been many opportunities in the penalty area - both teams are trying to get to the 20 minute mark and get some control in the game which we haven't quite seen yet from either side.

    Leicester 0-0 Southampton

Ricardo Pereira tries to play a quick ball down the flank but it is cut out.

Leicester continue to look the most likely to make something happen but Southampton are defending well.

Southampton's touchmap almost looks like they are actively trying to avoid the Leicester box.

Taking a while for this one to get going.

    Leicester 0-0 Southampton

Almost a quarter of an hour gone and there's only been that Ayoze Perez shot to shout about. Otherwise it has been a perhaps typically cagey affair so far.

  14. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Leicester 0-0 Southampton

Ibrahima Diallo loses the ball in a similar place to where he fouled Jamie Vardy earlier and prompted a Leicester break - not a good start for him so far but this time Leicester cannot capitalise.

Southampton have seen more of the ball but are largely being restricted to passing about in their own half, putting them at danger of those moments of loose passes being pounced upon by Leicester's quick break.

Relief for Leicester fans as Jamie Vardy soon gets to his feet. It did look concerning for a moment or two, though.

    Leicester 0-0 Southampton

Leicester break quickly after Jamie Vardy is fouled midway inside the Southampton half by Ibrahima Diallo. The ball is worked to Ayoze Pérez on the edge of the box and he tries to bend a shot into the far corner but puts it over.

Meanwhile, Diallo is booked for that foul and Vardy looks in pain. Early concern for Leicester here...

Fantastic opportunity for both sides in this competition - Leicester have started with a 4-4-2 with a back four to match Southampton. Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho up top.

High tempo but low quality start so far. Both sides looking to get the ball up into attacking areas of the pitch as quickly as possible.
