Tim Sherwood: This is probably the best Spurs 11 right now. Sad to admit it but that is where we are.
Not THE Tim Sherwood, it's worth pointing out...

The players are out and we'll soon be under way at Goodison Park.
A big, big game in the fight for European football, this.

Both of these sides have lost a bit of ground recently in the top-four race.
While I don't think Everton will make it, Tottenham still have an outside chance - but Spurs are going to have to win games like this to stay in the frame.
Normally I would fancy Everton to come out on top in a game like this at Goodison Park but their form there has been poor recently.
Tottenham have lost their way a little of late too, and they look far from solid at the back. They do have the firepower of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, though, and they might make the difference here.
Prediction: 1-2

As usual the Premier League's top four teams qualify for the Champions League, while fifth place guarantees you a Europa League spot - as does winning the FA Cup.
The change this time around is the introduction of the Europa Conference League.
The winners of the Carabao Cup (Manchester City or Tottenham) qualify for the play-off round of the new Conference League, unless they qualify for Europe via their league position.
In that situation, the Conference League place reverts to league placing, meaning the sixth-placed team - or seventh if the FA Cup is won by a top-six side - would enter the new third-tier competition.
So, plenty to aim at...

The team Mourinho has picked is set up not to win but not to lose. Ridiculous... Everton are not in form and have injuries

5 defenders and 3 defensive midfielders, A classic Jose away day selection. 0-1 incoming.

Harry Kane needs one goal to become the fourth player to score as many as 20 in at least five Premier League seasons.
Should he do so, he would find himself in esteemed company, joining Alan Shearer (seven), Sergio Aguero (six) and Thierry Henry (five) as the only other players to manage that feat.
And he does tend to enjoy himself against tonight's opponents, with 10 in his past 11 games against Everton.
Everton v Tottenham (20:00 BST)
Everton's 1-0 victory against Tottenham on the opening day of the season ended a 15-match winless league run against Spurs - and, following their FA Cup triumph, they could win three consecutive meetings in all competitions for the first time since 1986.
Generally though, Tottenham enjoy games against Everton. They have won 27 Premier League games against the Toffees, which is more than they have against any other side.
And they are also unbeaten in their past seven away league matches at Goodison.

Issa: At some point I thought this was Spurs’ season. The time they put 2 past City and their attacking football with Kane and Son proving unstoppable, I thought that was it but boom, Kane gets injured and the team blows, Bale and Dele revived it a bit but still nothing.
CB: No chance of a Spurs win tonight with that team selection!
Everton v Tottenham (20:00 BST)
Everton are looking to avoid going five league games without a win for the first time since December 2018.
Incidentally, the fifth game of that run was a 6-2 home defeat against Spurs.
They continue to struggle at Goodison too. Only Fulham and Liverpool have earned fewer points at home in 2021 than Everton's five.
They are also just one home defeat away from equalling the club record of eight in a 38-match Premier League campaign, set in 1996-97 and 2015-16.
Everton v Tottenham (20:00 BST)
Neither side managed to win last time out, as Tottenham lost 3-1 at home to Manchester United on Sunday and Everton played out a goalless draw at Brighton on Monday.
It means Everton go into tonight's game winless in five matches in all competitions, while Spurs have won just once in their past five...

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has had a bit to say on former boss Jose Mourinho's management style.
Speaking on the differences between Mourinho and current United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Pogba told Sky Sports, external: "What I have now with Ole is different because he wouldn't go against the players.
"Maybe Ole wouldn't pick them, but it's not like he puts them on the side like they don't exist any more. That's the difference between Mourinho and Ole."
"Once I had a great relationship with Mourinho," he added. "Everybody saw that and the next day you don't know what happened."

We've had unusual but enjoyable mix of paint puns and Jose Mourinho criticism so far tonight, and now the hybrids have started to arrive...
Now it’s official. I can watch Spurs or watch paint dry with an official sponsor....very canny Levy...

Over in the blue corner, Carlo Ancelotti simply insisted that every game is now crucial for his side.
"All the eight games are vital," said the Italian. "We have to play against teams who are fighting with us for the position. The other games aren’t less important.
"It will be an open game. Tottenham need points and we need points. They could score but we could score also. It is unpredictable to say what could happen."

Might get nippy later. Jose might need a second coat (I'll get mine)

A win for Spurs tonight might put a gloss on their season and help brush away recent disappointments.

So, will defeat prove fatal to the loser's hopes of European football this evening?
Speaking on Thursday about the importance of this match, Jose Mourinho said: "We’re very close to each other but there are more clubs around us. There are some clubs with a few more points, some others with a few less, but with still more than 20 points [to play for], I think it’s still open.
"It’s the kind of match where the winner gets the points and stops the loser from getting them. If you draw you stay more or less in the same position. So understandably I don’t think anything will be decided in there.
"But of course, if one of the two teams wins and gets an advantage, that can be important in the direct duel, not in relation to all the others that are around."
Everton v Tottenham (20:00 BST)
The last four meetings between Everton and Tottenham at Goodison Park in all competitions have produced 22 goals.
That includes eight for Everton and 14 for Spurs, following the Toffees 5-4 FA Cup win earlier this season.
Have I jinxed it yet?

Oliver Camp: There is not a single Spurs fan on planet Earth who would've selected that team. Astonishing that this man is holding on to his job.
Peter Blow: Everton playing their Jonathan Creek holding midfield duo there.
Everton v Tottenham (20:00 BST)
If tonight's encounter is half as good as the last meeting between these two sides, we're in for a treat.
Everton and Spurs played out a brilliant nine-goal classic at Goodison in the FA Cup in February, as Bernard struck in extra-time to seal a 5-4 victory for Carlo Ancelotti's side.
We can only hope...

England's Jordan Pickford is back in goal for Everton tonight after recovering from injury.
He is one of three changes to the Toffees team that drew with Brighton on Monday.
Midfielder Allan is also back after a spell on the sidelines while Alex Iwobi replaces Seamus Coleman.
Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still out.
Everton: Pickford, Holgate, Keane, Godfrey, Digne, Iwobi, Rodríguez, Davies, Allan, Richarlison, Sigurdsson.
Subs: Virginia, Olsen, King, Nkounkou, Coleman, Broadhead, John, Price, Welch.
Tottenham make two changes from their defeat to Manchester United last weekend.
Toby Alderweireld is recalled, as is Moussa Sissoko, with Giovanni Lo Celso and Lucas Moura missing out. That suggests a change of formation with Alderweireld in a back three.
Tottenham: Lloris, Aurier, Dier, Rodon, Alderweireld, Reguillon, Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Sissoko, Son, Kane.
Subs: Hart, Sanchez, Winks, Bale, Lamela, Lo Celso, Alli, Tanganga, Moura.
