Former England and Arsenal striker Ian Wright on ITV: "Today the build-up play was very good, but some of the end product was poor.

"Chances have to be taken. But you can't be disappointed with 8-0."

England

England boss Sarina Wiegman tells ITV 4: "It was a very good start. We worked hard and I think we saw a lot of energy. We have to score more chances because we created so many chances. We only scored eight but it's a nice start.

On how memorable her first Lionesses game will be: "It was very special. We trained hard and to be in an atmosphere with lots of. The opponent wasn't that good so we should have won anyway.

On there being eight goals from 46 chances: "We know when we play stronger opponents we won't get as many chances as tonight. But we said at half-time to be a little more composed in the final third."

On if tonight's line-up was an indication of her system going forward:"Now we will come out of the game. Tomorrow we have recovery and then we see how everyone comes out of the game. New energy in the team and North Macedonia were a little tired too and we kept up the level really high and that's good to see."

A lovely tribute to Rachel Daly's father Martyn, who sadly passed away last week.

England

England goalscorer Ellen White speaking to ITV 4: "We're delighted to get off the mark in the World Cup qualifiers with eight goals, a clean sheet and loads of different scorers as well. It was Sarina's first game so we're really pleased and will use that going into the game on Tuesday."

On whether she could have scored more: "I'll have a bit of a sleepless night. We had a lot of chances and we'll definitely go back on the training field. We want to score more goals, we're delighted with the eight goals."

On scoring her 41st England goal and closing in on the record:"I hope you can see how much I love playing for England. It's a dream for me. I'll take every game as it comes."

On welcoming fans back: "It's the best feeling to have home support and England fans. We've been waiting a long time for this and we really soaked it in and appreciate everyone coming out to support us."

That result puts Sarina Wiegman's side top of Group D, overtaking Austria who beat Latvia 8-1 earlier.

Elsewhere in the group, Northern Ireland beat Luxembourg 4-0.

England made up for all those missed chances in the first half with a ruthless second half display.

It was an excellent second half. England created a lot of chances and converted those chances.

They played with real intensity for the full 45 minutes and that is sometimes difficult to do when you are playing against a team that sits back and doesn't press.

They dealt with it well. There are a lot of positives.

It's brilliant. Beth England has found herself in a world of space there. She has just floated the ball into the top corner. There wasn't any challenge, she had lots of time for a free header. The goalkeeper didn't even move.

The attendance at St Mary's is 8,214.

At 6-0 down, Suarta Dervishi is still putting her body on the line.

She has badly winded herself as she rushed out to stop Beth England scoring a seventh. Great block, but the ball smashed straight into her stomach.

Another change for the Lionesses as Rachel Daly makes way for Niamh Charles.

Great goalkeeping from Suarta Dervishi as she gets two hands behind the ball to deny Ella Toone from distance. Jill Scott is ready to pounce from the rebound, but the goalkeeper flaps another hand at the ball to clear the danger.

It's almost a dream introduction for Jill Scott.

Beth Mead is at the heart of the action once again as she finds Scott, but her shot goes crashing against the crossbar.

There'll be no Ellen White hat-trick tonight as the Lionesses make another double substitution.
