    Steph Houghton's withdrawal means Arsenal’s Leah Williamson will now captain her country for the first time in tonight's World Cup qualifier.

    After finding out the news, Williamson said: "It was unexpected and it's a big honour. It's something that will make me very proud."

    She also said her mum will probably be in bits.

    England are without captain Steph Houghton for tonight's game.

    The Manchester City defender has withdrawn from the squad after injuring her ankle during the Lionesses' final training session in Southampton.

    The 33-year-old will return to her club for further assessment.

    England head coach Sarina Wiegman wished Houghton a "speedy recovery".

    Sarina Wiegman has picked an experienced starting XI in her first match in charge of the Lionesses.

    Leah Williamson captains the side for the first time and is expected to start in midfield, alongside Ella Toone and Georgia Stanway.

    Manchester City defender Alex Greenwood is set to play centre-back, while in-form Beth Mead gets the nod ahead of Nikita Parris up front.

    Goalkeeper Mary Earps starts ahead of Sandy MacIver.

    England XI: Earps, Daly, Greenwood, Bright, Stokes, Williamson, Mead, Stanway, White, Toone, Hemp.

    Sarina Wiegman included 16 members of the British Tokyo Olympics team in her first England squad since becoming manager.

    Chelsea defender Jessica Carter has also been called up, while experienced internationals Mary Earps and Lucy Staniforth return to the fold.

    Manchester City trio Lucy Bronze, Keira Walsh and Ellie Roebuck all miss out through injury.

    Uncapped pair Esme Morgan and Katie Zelem were also included, but Man City defender Morgan was forced to withdraw from the squad after suffering a lower leg fracture in Sunday's WSL game against Spurs. Wiegman didn't call up a replacement.
