There are some traffic problems getting to the stadium. There are plenty of people inside but it's definitely not full yet so hopefully those problems ease.

Nine minutes on the clock. England have enjoyed a whopping 94% possession. A lovely delivery by Beth Mead which almost falls for Nikita Parris.

I mentioned it's a party atmosphere earlier. It's not a party without a blast of 'Sweet Caroline' is it? England fans are belting it out around the ground.

This is a chance to impress Sarina Wiegman. We're 10 months out from the World Cup so any chance you get, you want to cause havoc for Luxembourg.

Two quick corners for the Lionesses both taken by Alex Greenwood. The first is attacked by Leah Williamson before the second is cleared.

It's all England in terms of possession. Luxembourg just cannot keep the ball.

Nikita Parris took too much time and tried to be too precise. You've got to beat that first defender.

Luxembourg are already under big pressure. What a pass by Keira Walsh to find Nikita Parris but her delivery into the danger area doesn't quite find its target and is cleared.

There's definitely a celebratory feel in Stoke. Immediately after the national anthems there was a big chant of "England".

If Luxembourg forgot who they were playing, they were reminded when they walked out on a red mat saying "European champions".

The trophy was placed in between the two teams during the anthems too, and Sarina Wiegman received her Uefa coach of the Year award.

It's taken a while for the stadium to fill up but it's getting busier now.

Former England striker Ian Wright, speaking on ITV: "It is going to be very difficult for Luxembourg to stop England. The best they can do is try and defend the best they can, try and stifle England.

"This is why the federations need to get more backing. They need more backing. We don't want to see teams getting hammered out of sight."

  17. 'We want to create chances and score lots of goals'published at 19:27 British Summer Time 6 September 2022

    England v Luxembourg (19:30 BST)

    Sarina Wiegman, England boss
    Speaking on ITV

It's really nice to see all the fans outside and being really excited about the game. This is the first home game since the Euros so we're excited too, to have 30,000 people here and on a great pitch.

We've made a couple of changes, one of them is Nikita [Parris] now starting but we want to see a good game from the whole team.

We're taking this game very seriously and play in their half of the pitch all of the time, and hopefully create lots of chances and score lots of goals.

This is the highest level and only 11 people can start. That's part of the environment we're in but we keep communicating and try to help players with their development. We have the rest of the year to talk through that.

Former England midfielder Karen Carney on ITV: "We saw what Rachel Daly did at left-back in the Euros. She's brilliant.

"She's one of the hardest workers in training, she's got a great mentality and I'm excited to see her back in the WSL - but I think she'll play centre-forward, that's how versatile she is."

We already know the identities of 25 of the 32 teams appearing at the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next summer.

They include world champions the United States - who are coming to Wembley on 7 October - and Zambia, who are ranked 80th in the world.

But will the Netherlands be there?

The 2019 runners-up are yet to confirm their place. They host Iceland in a winner-take-all match at 19:45 BST. Iceland start top of Group C on 18 points - one ahead of the Netherlands with one game left.

A World Cup without Vivianne Miedema? Unthinkable.
