Barcelona make history then as a final between two clubs waiting to pick up their maiden European success ends with Catalan pride.

Chelsea were overrun in the first half an hour and could not overhaul the deficit, against one of the slickest teams in Europe with devastating attacking football and defensive might.

Emma Hayes must pick her Chelsea side up now, they still have a treble to win with the FA Cup, having already clinched the WSL and League Cup.

The quadruple must wait. But you get the sense they will be back. There's a lot more to come from the Blues.

Thanks for joining us. Good night.

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes told BT Sport:

"It's been a wonderful season for us, today was difficult because the game was over before it began and that's what is so difficult to reflect on.

"To concede so early, we had two good chances and then they got the second through the penalty.

"Ann hasn't had a save to make but we've lost 4-0, but the damage was done, I'm proud of the second half performance, the players gave it everything.

"Congratulations to Barcelona, they're worthy winners, deserving of the title and it's something we will learn from because this is the next step, we showed some naivety at times."

It's a crestfallen Millie Bright who stood before the television cameras in the post-match interview there on BT Sport.

She and her teammates felt the full force of the Barcelona side, who got up for it from the opening whistle.

Bright, as she says, it'll hopefully be just the first of many and they can get there again.

You have negative times in football, that happens to every team.

Emma Hayes going to a men's team may happen one day.

I don't think that will happen until she finishes her business at Chelsea, and that didn't happen tonight.

Chelsea defender Millie Bright told BT Sport:

"It's disappointing, we didn't have the start to the game we wanted, but in these game against these opponents you can't concede sloppy goals.

"They had four chances in the first half and put four goals in the back of the net. It's a massive learning curve but we're proud of the journey.

"We had chances, but couldn't put the ball away.

"Congratulations to Barca, they're an incredible team and deserve it. We'll be back better and back stronger for the next time."

It's not easy to get to a Champions League final. It might not happen again next year, it might be a few years' time.

For some of them, it might not happen again for them and that's torture.

It took Barca's men until 1992 at Wembley to lift it - their 93rd year. Barca Femeni have done it in 33 years.

Nice touch from the Barca players, an ovation for the Chelsea team that strides along to collect their runners-up medals.

I'm sure in the coming days and weeks, Emma Hayes will have a sense of pride that Chelsea came to the final and put women's football in the headlines.

Those who have watched on TV, on platforms like YouTube, will hopefully have been inspired.

Europe will certainly have noticed how good Barcelona are. A standard has certainly been set.

The better side won, the better side technically and tactically.

The top players for Barcelona turned up and they were absolutely brilliant.

Yes Chelsea have lost, but the bigger story is, this is a step forward in women's football.

Technically, all the players are improving all the time and you just don't see that in the men's game.

Barcelona were in their away kit tonight, but have changed to a woman into their traditional blaugrana for the presentation.

There are tears in their ranks too, tears of joy and relief, particularly from the likes of Vicky Losada who was there in 2019, and has waited a whole career to get her hands on this trophy.

    They'll have so much hurt.

I wished Fran Kirby good luck this morning and she said how excited she was. All that excitement was crushed in the first minute, but that goal cannot make or break the game.

Chelsea just didn't have the tools in the first 10 minutes to keep the scoreline at 1-0.

I do feel for them. I know how hard they've worked.

Chelsea's players and staff are stood in a huddle as boss Emma Hayes presents to her squad.

This will burn, it will hurt, there will be tears. Especially for Sweden international Magdalena Eriksson who was captaining her club in her national team's stadium.

    A learning curve.

It was a goal inside the first 30-odd seconds, an own-goal from the unlucky Melanie Leupolz, that gave Barcelona the initiative.

Leupolz then gave away a spot kick which Alexia Putellas put away, and two further goals from Aitana Bonmati and Caroline Graham Hansen made it 4-0 a tthe break.

They were never going to come back from that, Chelsea. It was a brave second-half effort. But the game had gone.
