That's a wrap for tonight.

Newport have taken a big step towards a second League Two play-off final at Wembley in three seasons - but Forest Green are not out of it yet.

The second leg will be at the New Lawn on Sunday evening.

Next up tomorrow will be the first leg of the second League One semi-final between Lincoln City and Sunderland, while the first leg of the second League Two semi-final between Tranmere and Morecambe is on Thursday.

Forest Green interim boss Jimmy Ball speaking to Sky Sports: "We were a little bit jittery. Fair play to Newport, they came after us.

"We hit the bar, their keeper has made a great save. That's football - fine margins.

"But 2-0 can be a daunting place to be as well. We'll lick our wounds and we'll be okay.

"It was the referee's first game with fans. I thought he favoured the home team.

"We got outfought, which I don't like, but Newport are a good side."

Newport manager Mike Flynn speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought we were excellent.

"My only gripe is that we didn't kill the tie off because we had plenty of chances.

"I'm a little bit miffed we didn't kill them off.

"He [Matt Dolan] has got fantastic technique, whether it's in midfield or defence. The technique on the strike was quality."

Man of the match and scorer of Newport's spectacular first goal Matt Dolan speaking to Sky Sports: "We were resolute but that's only half the job done.

"It wasn't as fluent as we've been this season but this is the business end of the season and results are all that matter.

"I hit it [the goal] well. I back myself technically so it was nice to see it rise into the top corner. It was one of my best.

"Ideally I would have been hitting it at a different angle but I managed to sort out my feet. Not a bad one!"

For these supporters to walk out of the stadium having seen the team that represent them, knowing that they’ve given their all.

Even better, knowing their all has been good enough to beat a good Forest Green team and give you a 2-0 win in the first leg of the play-off semi-finals. Money can’t buy that.

The whistle goes to end the League Two play-off semi-final first leg and it is advantage Newport ahead of Sunday's return game at Forest Green.

Matt Dolan scored a glorious long-range goal before Lewis Collins doubled the hosts' lead to win the battle of the brothers against Rovers forward Aaron.

There is time for Forest Green yet, though. Had Newport taken their chances, this tie could be all but over.

But Jimmy Ball's side, who hit the bar through Odin Bailey, are still in it with another 90 minutes to play.

Newport break again and Josh Sheehan is fouled 30 yards from the Forest Green goal.

Ideal for the Exiles, really.

Newport have half a chance to extend their lead as Forest Green lose possession in their own half, but a deflection takes the sting out of Nicky Maynard's shot and the corner which follows comes to nothing.

Brilliant work from Scot Bennett to earn his team a corner.

That's where Newport want to be.

Well, well.

There are going to be seven minutes of stoppage time.

It is not entirely clear why, but Forest Green will be pleased.

Veteran forward Nicky Maynard is on for Newport as Padraig Amond makes way.

What a performance this has been from Newport County.

The level of control they have shown defensively is extremely impressive.

For the second night in succession, a Welsh club looks a serious contender to get promoted.

Josh Davison is on up front for Forest Green having replaced Aaron Collins.

He almost latches onto a ball into the box but is eventually snuffed out by two Newport defenders.

What a waste. Forest Green send the big man forward as they send a free-kick into the penalty area, but there is too much on the delivery and it sails out for a goal-kick.

Jamille Matt goes down in the box and screams loudly for a penalty after Mickey Demetriou's challenge.

Matt is convinced he should have a spot-kick, but the referee is not interested.

Lovely play by Josh Sheehan, who finds time and space to pick out Aaron Lewis, who makes a great run into the box but can only shoot wide.

Newport might have been out of sight here.
