Barnsley manager Valerien Ismael told Sky Sports: "Firstly a big thank you to the fans, it was an incredible atmosphere.

"It was great to play in front of them, the first 20 minutes we felt the emotion and we didn't play well in transition.

"The goal is frustrating, it looked a clear offside position, and to lose the game like that is very frustrating.

"But now it is half time, I think it will be good for us to play away next without any pressure.

"We will play like we did in the second half today, but from the first minute on Saturday.

"This is the third time we have played Swansea and not scored, we have a few days now to prepare and we need to show more desire.

"We have nothing to lose and the pressure is still on Swansea."

Swansea City head coach Steve Cooper told Sky Sports: "It was a good effort from the boys, we managed to show some bits of quality, the goal being the obvious one.

"It was great to have supporters back, I can't wait to get back to our place on Saturday now.

"It was fine margins, I was just really pleased with the resilience of the boys.

"Marc [Guehi] has been brilliant all season, I really believe in him, these boys are performing while growing as young men.

"We've got it all to do again, tonight was a real effort from everyone but we've been here before.

"The final whistle in the next game is the important one."

Swansea City's Marc Guehi told Sky Sports: "It was a massive performance, we knew how tough it would be and Barnsley made it really tough.

"It's a good start ahead of what will be a really tough second leg.

"I love defending, we all do and it starts from the front, and I thought Freddie [Woodman] was amazing and it was nice to have fans back, the atmosphere was great.

"We had to adjust to the fans at the start, but we had to relish the moment.

"It was a fantastic finish from Andre [Ayew], he's done it all season for us.

"But this tie is not done, the way they finished they will come with the same intensity, but if we show the same resilience we will be okay."

You would not have thought Barnsley had lost that from the reception the home fans gave them at full-time.

It's set up very nicely for that second leg back in south Wales now because you know Barnsley will keep going right until the end.

Naughton, Bidwell, Cabango and Guehi were magnificent. They took everything that was thrown at them.

But this is far from over.

Swansea really had to dig deep to hold on to their lead.

Barnsley were relentless in their pursuit of an equaliser but a combination of fine goalkeeping, dogged defending and the woodwork kept them at bay.

What an absorbing game. Let's hope Saturday's return leg at the Liberty Stadium gives us more of the same.

Barnsley striker Daryl Dike's work is done for the evening and he is replaced by Victor Adeboyejo.

Ben Cabango and Marc Guehi have done an excellent job of containing Dike this evening.

Andre Ayew shoots from a similar area to the one from where he scored the game's only goal, but this time his effort is blocked.

Conor Hourihane then lays the ball off to Matt Grimes, who connects well with a shot from more than 30 yards out but it's a comfortable save for Bradley Collins.

It's probably fairly obvious that Barnsley are going to keep doing what they've been doing all night as we head into the final few minutes here.

For Swansea it seems to be a case of what we have, we hold and the time they're taking over set pieces is starting to really get the home support's back up.

They've had a couple of dangerous moments on the break in the past 10 or 15 minutes but they're in no rush to force anything at the expense of leaving the back door open.

Barnsley captain Alex Mowatt, sporting a beard shaped with remarkable precision, floats a free-kick into the Swansea box.

Freddie Woodman gathers and wastes a little more time before clearing.

Now it's Swansea's turn to have a half-hearted penalty appeal waved away, this time after Wayne Routledge goes down under a challenge from Mads Andersen.

This lads at the back for Swansea City have been a mountain up to this point.

Barnsley make another change. Midfielder Romal Palmer is off and Jordan Williams come on in his place, slotting in at right wing-back.

It looks like Callum Brittain is moving into midfield.

With 15 minutes left, Swansea goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is already delving into his playbook of timewasting ploys.

It's only a few seconds here and there at the moment, holding on to the ball a little longer than he might otherwise do, taking his time over goal kicks.

Swansea are trying to take the sting out of this fiery encounter.

Barnsley's vociferous fans want a penalty for what they think is a Kyle Naughton foul on Cauley Woodrow.

It looks like the Swansea defender gets the ball and, despite Woodrow's protestations, referee Geoff Eltringham waves play on.

Swansea come close to a second goal.

Jamal Lowe does superbly to engineer a chance for himself, dribbling into the Barnsley penalty area, cutting on to his right foot and curling a shot towards the top corner which goes narrowly over.
