  1. 'The fans bond with the team'published at 13:28 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Burnley v Liverpool (Weds, 20:15 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley entertain Liverpool in their final home game of the season on Wednesday and manager Sean Dyche says it will be "great" to welcome back the fans to Turf Moor.

"They stay with the team, through the good and the bad results," said Dyche.

"They bond with the team and it will be great to see some of them back tomorrow, and hopefully even more next season.

"Nick Pope is touch and go, Dale Stephens and Phil Bardsley both had operations and will miss it and Kevin Long and Robbie Brady are both still unavailable."

  2. 'Liverpool wasn't Hodgson's stylepublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Roy Hodgson was appointed Liverpool manager in July 2010, but after only winning seven of 20 Premier League games, he left the club by mutual consent six months later.

Liverpool is a club that has a huge history, successes in the 1980s - they were desperately trying to get back to that when Roy took over.

They have a certain style of football that they really want to see their teams play: really open and attacking-minded, and there was a demand for that.

Not only for having success but to bring those entertaining performances back. When you look at Liverpool today, that’s pretty much what they are – a modern day version of that team from the ‘80s, those teams like to be on the front foot.

That wasn’t Roy’s style. Roy wanted to build foundations and consistency and at times it was, for some people, quite boring and for a club like Liverpool, it wasn’t the Liverpool way.

Also, if players don’t buy into it, then you really are in trouble.

  3. 'Palace fans will appreciate Hodgson'published at 13:10 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Fulham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I’m sure the Crystal Palace fans who will be in the stadium on Wednesday will show their appreciation for Roy. They will realise what he has done for the club and what his team has accomplished. The players and the staff all speak incredibly highly of Roy Hodgson and the environment he’s created.

Whenever you create stability – certainly four years in a row – in the Premier League, people always want more, they want that next step taken, and now Palace are at that point.

If they are able to take that next step and be successful, a lot of that will be down to the very rock solid foundation that Roy was heavily involved in. Roy will take a lot of satisfaction in being a part of that – provided Palace go on and go up a level from here.”

  4. Mason incomingpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Tottenham v Aston Villa (Weds, 18:00 BST)

Now then, we're expecting to hear from Tottenham interim boss Ryan Mason shortly.

I imagine there may be a few questions about Harry Kane's future.

    Stay tuned for updates...

  5. 'Impossible job'published at 12:58 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club

It’s an impossible job for whoever has to replace him. The squad will need a big overhaul with so many players out of contract. You have to look at the job Roy has done there - they have always stayed up pretty comfortably.

He is not everybody’s cup of tea because of the brand of football but in terms of doing a job and keeping owners happy he is the perfect fit.

  6. Raul Jimenez due for medical check todaypublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

    Everton v Wolves (Wed, 18:00BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez is due to see a specialist today to find out when he will be allowed to play again following his recovery from the fractured skull he suffered in November.

Although manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been quite positive, I was told a few days ago that it was virtually certain the Mexican would not feature in the last two games of the season.

Nuno is due to give his press conference shortly, although whether he has any information is not certain.

  8. Hodgson's successor - Lampard? Dyche? Howe?published at 12:38 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has been installed as the early bookmakers' favourite to succeed Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace.

Other names linked with the vacancy include current Burnley boss Sean Dyche and Swansea City's Steve Cooper.

And how about we throw another name into the mix - the ex-Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is available, although he has also been reportedly courted by Celtic.

Palace are 13th in the Premier League table, with two games of the season remaining.

  9. Walcott to sign permanently at Saintspublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

    Southampton

On-loan Southampton winger Theo Walcott will sign a permanent two-year deal at the club when his Everton contract expires at the end of the season.

Walcott, 32, returned to St Mary's on a season-long loan in October, 15 years after making his debut for the Saints as a 16-year-old.

He has scored three goals in 22 games for the club so far this season.

"I'm not sure I can properly express how happy I am about this," said Walcott, who has 47 England caps.

    Hodgson to leave Crystal Palace

As well as being the oldest manager in Premier League history (73y 280d for Crystal Palace's win over Aston Villa), Roy Hodgson is one of only four managers to manage a Premier League match aged 70+, along with Sir Bobby Robson, Sir Alex Ferguson and Neil Warnock.

    Hodgson to leave Crystal Palace

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Roy Hodgson a truly decent man. Loves football and is passionate about it but also has a wider view of the world.

Thoroughly enjoyed my time covering England when he was in charge and still find him illuminating to talk to. A fabulous career and good luck for what comes next.

A reminder of the earlier breaking news - Roy Hodgson is to leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season.

The 73-year-old former England boss said "the time is right to step away from the rigours of top-flight Premier League football".

Hodgson has been in charge of Palace since September 2017.

His final match will be against Liverpool, one of his former clubs, at Anfield on Sunday.

  13. 'English football should be proud of Kane'published at 12:08 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Crystal Palace v Arsenal (Wed, 19:00 BST)

    Arsenal

Harry Kane is, as you would expect, is the hot topic of every press conference today.

Will we see the 27-year-old Tottenham striker cross the divide and join North London rivals Arsenal in the summer?

    Maybe not.

(Laughs) "I don’t know if Kane is leaving Spurs. You say that, I don’t know. He is still there," said Arteta.

The Gunners boss added: "I suffered him both ways, as a player and a manager. English football should be so proud to have someone of his talents, with his quality, talents and consistency.

"What he has been able to do over the years in that position in this league is incredible. The national team has someone to hang onto to give you the opportunity to compete against any team because you know he can win you the game at any moment and that’s big words in football."

  14. 'I'm sure I have done things wrong'published at 12:04 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Crystal Palace v Arsenal (Wed, 19:00 BST)

    Arsenal

It hasn't been the greatest of seasons for Arsenal this time around.

Arteta's side currently sit ninth in Premier League table with two games to go, but have picked up three wins in their last three matches - including a 1-0 victory over rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge - to finish the campaign on a better note.

The Spanish boss says he will take time to think about what's next for the Gunners.

“I want to reflect in the next week or so when we finish," said Arteta. "I’m sure I have done a lot of things wrong. 100% I can tell you now before going through it.

"How am I going to make much better decisions? Get the best out of these players and the football club and the resources we have. I have spent a lot of time and effort identifying critical points to change, how those decisions will be made and which time frame to do them.

"The capacity we have to do is incredible and I see that moment as a lot of change as big opportunity for our future."

  15. 'Luiz's journey has been remarkable'published at 11:59 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Crystal Palace v Arsenal (Wed, 19:00 BST)

    Arsenal

Next on the agenda for Mikel Arteta is David Luiz.

The Brazil centre-back has decided to leave Arsenal this summer after two years at Emirates Stadium, following an £8m switch from Chelsea in 2019.

Arteta was keen to stress how much the 34-year-old has meant to him and the club during their time together.

“When you get to the know the person, his background where he was raised in Brazil and what he has done to get to this point it's remarkable," he said. "You understand a lot of things that happen for a reason. It’s not just an ability, determination and many other factors.

"I really enjoyed it and learned from him. He has been very helpful all the time with the team. I feel sadness. You get attached to the players emotionally.

"The player we have to get the maximum out of and then there is the person, when it gets to this stages it tough and it hurts because that relationship will be going away when I wont see him everyday. I have to say thank you to him."

  16. 'Hodgson is a legend'published at 11:54 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Crystal Palace v Arsenal (Wed, 19:00 BST)

    Arsenal

Some lovely words first off from Mikel Arteta about outgoing Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, who will leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season.

“He’s an absolute legend. What he’s done for football, for English football," Arteta said.

"What he transmits as a manager and what he has done at different clubs is remarkable.

"He has been doing it for so long with the way he is always conducting himself. It’s a great example for me as a young coach. He is someone I admire."

    Crystal Palace

The former England manager has spent four years with his boyhood club Crystal Palace. His final game in the dugout will be against Liverpool at Anfield.

Hodgson will turn 74 before the new season and he says "the time is right" to step away from the "rigours" of Premier League management.

“It’s been a particularly rewarding period of my football life and career to have been able to spend these last four seasons with Palace," he said in a statement.

"I feel now that at the end of another successful season, in which we have secured our Premier League status, the moment is right for me to step down from my responsibilities of being a full-time manager."
