  1. 'One of the dark moments of the season'published at 11:22 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Newcastle v Sheffield United (Weds, 18:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle were beaten at Bramall Lane in January and manager Steve Bruce says it was "one of the dark moments of the season".

"Certainly one of dark moments of season," said Bruce.

"I certainly picked the wrong team and the performance in Sheffield was one of bad moments. I have enormous respect for what Chris [Wilder] did. But then look, they won [against us], won at Old Trafford and got relegated.

"That doesn't happen in other leagues. They are a genuine group and it hasn't happened this year for them but we need to show them respect."

  2. 'How can we improve and get better?'published at 11:16 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Newcastle v Sheffield United (Weds, 18:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Having secured Premier League safety, Steve Bruce has already turned his attention to strengthening his squad for next season.

"It looks as if Harry Kane became available yesterday," said Bruce.

"That wouldn't be a bad start. No, I mean, look, we've had conversations but that's normal, but I think what's vitally important now is that we finish off the season.

"Of course discussions have gone on, and there will be, like every club up and down the country, they'll be discussions of which way forward.

"I can't really reveal that because it would be disrespectful for the people that we're trying to bring to the club, but always my thought is, how can we improve and get better.

"And that's what I'm trying to do."

  3. 'A step to being normal again'published at 11:08 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Newcastle v Sheffield United (Weds, 18:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce says fans returning to stadiums is a "step to being normal again".

"We will start feeling it when we arrive tomorrow," said Bruce.

"We had a flavour of it at the FA Cup final, and last night in the play-offs watching Barnsley and the atmosphere they've created.

"It's been weird playing in front of nobody, you get used to it in the end, but it's a step to being normal again.

"If we ever needed reminding of what we play for, it's the supporters, the spectacle. You go to the pub before and after and discuss everything that makes the game great."

I'm heading to Old Trafford tonight on my own for the Fulham game from Nottigham. I'm excited to see the team again and be in the crowd. Will be another step to feeling a little more normal after the past year. Need to make sure I have my singing voice.

    Matt, Nottingham

My son and I will be one of the 7900 fans at the Amex tonight! Can't wait. Finally the two season tickets I bought at the start of the year are paying off!!!! (Well not quite paying off but you get the idea) Good Old Sussex By The Sea!!

  6. 'Grealish should start'published at 10:48 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Tottenham v Aston Villa (Weds, 18:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith provides an injury update on his squad and says talisman Jack Grealish has not had much time to "influence games" since returning from his shin problem.

"Morgan [Sanson] is still not available and is out for last couple of games," said Smith.

"Matt Cash is out and Tyrone Mings should train today.

"[Jack] Grealish should start depending on how he comes through training - there will be conversations with the medical teams.

"He came on and looked bright in the first game [against Everton]. He didn’t get as much ball at Palace. He hasn’t had enough time to influence the game as much as he would like to."

  7. 'Top professional'published at 10:43 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Tottenham v Aston Villa (Weds, 18:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

With Villa travelling to Spurs for their penultimate game of the season on Wednesday, even Dean Smith has had his say on Harry Kane's situation.

Asked if rumours around certain players unsettles the squad, Smith said: "I don’t think so.

"It will be talked about but I haven't seen any quotes from Harry Kane or Tottenham.

"Harry Kane is one of the top professionals out there. His sole aim will be to finish as top goal scorer.

"They have a front four capable of hurting anyone but you can build up momentum [with victory] that you take into next season.

"It would be nice for us after all the claims of the Super League to put in performances and show what we’re capable of."

Tottenham v Aston Villa (Weds, 18:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

With fans set to return to Premier League matches this week, Aston Villa manager Dean Smith says the supporters are the "lifeblood" of the club.

"Everyone is looking forward to it," said Smith.

"The last year has shown how important supporters are, they are the lifeblood.

"I watched the play-off semi finals last night and the atmosphere was great in both stadiums.

"We’ve all felt it. We made five new signings in the summer and their family and friends have never seen them play at Villa park.

"For the players as well, it's something they've been missing to play in front of their loved ones."

  13. 'Surely it's a reason behind the performances'published at 09:58 British Summer Time 18 May 2021

Man Utd v Fulham (18:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Manchester United players have been affected by the fan protests about the club's ownership, according to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Last week, Solskjaer's side were beaten by Leicester and Liverpool in the space of 50 hours as a congested fixture list combined with fan discontent to disrupt their planning.

United's players spent hours in the stadium and beds were delivered so they could rest ahead of the Liverpool game amid fears of major demonstrations.

"I didn't want to use it as an excuse because we lost two games, but surely it's reason behind the performances," he said.
