There was one moment in the first half when BBC television cameras focused on players in the stands that sums up the injury crisis City are dealing with.

In one shot, there was captain Steph Houghton, Fifa Best Women's Player Lucy Bronze and goalkeepers Ellie Roebuck and Karen Bardsley. All big names not to have available.

The question at half-time is "what will Gareth Taylor do to turn things around for Manchester City?"

Well, it is worth a reminder that the injury-ravaged Cup holders have managed to name just five players on the bench today. Taylor is certainly short of options if he wants to change things up.

Goalkeeper Karima Taieb, who should’ve done better with the second goal, has made a save to deny WSL top goalscorer Sam Kerr Chelsea’s third and then also a point-blank stop to frustrate Fran Kirby.

Remember, City are not blessed with options as they could only name five substitutes, including a 16-year-old goalkeeper, compared to nine players on the Chelsea bench.
