Again Manchester City simply cannot clear danger quickly enough.

Eventually Frank Kirby is on the ball and tries her luck from a very tight angle. Karima Taieb deals with it.

There were other options on, and maybe the England forward should have tried to cut the ball back with a pass.

Karima Taieb comes up with a crucial save for Manchester City now.

She is quick to read the danger as Sam Kerr turns on the edge of the area to meet a nicely threaded through ball. The French keeper gets low to keep the shot out.

    Man City 0-2 Chelsea

Chelsea are not giving Manchester City anything.

The Women's FA Cup holders are given no chance to build out from the back. They are met by an energetic wall of Chelsea blue every time they attempt it.

Chelsea with a big penalty shout here.

Jess Carter is off scampering on the left and she looks to cut into the area.

Lauren Hemp gives a tug of the shirt and Carter goes down. If anything that would have been a free-kick just outside the area.

A great strike from Erin Cuthbert gave Chelsea the lead and, after a bright start from the hosts, Emma Hayes’ side had enjoyed a strong spell of play.

The first goal came just after an excellent last-ditch sliding challenge from Jill Scott has denied Sam Kerr when she was through on goal. Just before that Aniek Nouwen had headed just wide.

City may live to regret that Ellen White miss when the England striker, who only needs three goals to become England’s top female goal scorer, shot just wide when it was goalless.

And now City’s task has got even harder. Goalkeeper Karina Taieb should have done better with Melanie Leupolz’s effort from 20 yards out. City need a strong fightback but their grip on this trophy is very much slipping.

I can see the Man City goalkeeper coach looking at the replay.

I can tell you what Taieb did wrong, she didn't move her feet quick enough to get to the ball.

Melanie Leupolz wouldn't have expected to score with that shot.

Manchester City are punished for failing to clear the danger.

A header from Demi Stokes makes it only as far as Melanie Leupolz on the edge of the area.

The German does well to control it before letting rip with a low shot. Karim Taieb is beaten at her near post. She should have done better there.

What can Manchester City manage in response now?

We have a little frustration from Keira Walsh as she stops Fran Kirby in her tracks in the middle of the pitch.

  9. 'Keeper should save it'published at 13:13 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2021

I think Chelsea's set-piece coach will be thrilled.

It was a great first touch from Erin Cuthbert and a fierce strike.

But City keeper Taieb should be saving that. The angle was tight and it didn't take a deflection. It went through her hands.

This is a brilliantly taken goal by Erin Cuthbert.

From the corner the ball fall to her on the edge of the area and she smashes it home.

Goalkeeper Karima Taieb will feel like she could have done more to keep that out.

    Sam Kerr is away...

A brilliant first-time ball from Melanie Leupolz send the Australian on her way. Her last tough is a little heavy and Jill Scott gets across to clear.

    We have a corner.

City's Khadija Shaw, who scored a hat-trick in the 6-0 quarter-final win over Leicester, is already proving a handful.

Her excellent cross from the right flank was excellently cut out by Millie Bright, to deny fellow England international Ellen White a shooting chance.

Shaw almost ran in past the Chelsea defence but could just not get on the end of Alex Greenwood's fine ball from the back.

At the other end, Fran Kirby, a goalscorer in Chelsea's 3-1 in over Arsenal in the 2018 final, will have been disappointed to send a header well wide when free in the penalty area.

Again, Chelsea really could be 1-0 up!

Guro Reiten sends a wonderful free-kick into the area and Aniek Nouwen gets a head on it. There is plenty of power on it, but it lacks direction.

Manchester City's Demi Stokes is the first into the book today. She brings down Erin Cuthbert on the edge of the area.

A very dangerous place to give away a free-kick.

The chances are really stacking up for Manchester City now.

Lauren Hemp does well to find Ellen White just a few yards out, but the England striker can't get her effort on goal.

A lovely ball. Could Weir have hit that first time?

She's got the ability to convert from that distance.

Oh what a chance this very nearly was for Manchester City.

A long ball over the top finds Caroline Weir on the edge of the area. She gets in between two defenders and tries to control it. Her touch eludes her and the chance is gone in an instant.

It would have been spectacular if she managed to even get an effort on goal.

Will Chelsea haunt an injury-hit Manchester City today?

(I was looking to keep the Halloween reference down to a minimum, but not going to ignore this effort for Chelsea)

More industrious stuff from Manchester City.

A cross from the right finds Ellen White in the box, but her attempted flick on fails to fall for Khadija Shaw.
