  1. The job's only half done!published at 22:43 British Summer Time 21 May 2021

    Larne 1-2 Linfield

Linfield knew they had a big week ahead of them, but they've passed their first assignment in the hunt for the double with flying colours.

David Healy's side were far too strong for Larne on the night, and deservedly added a 44th Irish Cup crown to their vast trophy collection thanks to first-half goals from Shayne Lavery and Joel Cooper.

If you weren't able to follow the action, click here to read Mark Sterling's match report and watch the highlights.

And while the Blues will enjoy tonight, there is still the small matter of defending their Irish Premiership title.

However, they only need a point against Coleraine at the Showgrounds on Tuesday evening to complete the league and cup double and cap another golden season for the Windsor Park club.

You will be able to watch Coleraine v Linfield on the BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer.

Until then, it's goodbye from us!

  5. 'Wounded' Blues used loss to fuel performance - Mulgrewpublished at 22:02 British Summer Time 21 May 2021

    Larne 1-2 Linfield

    Quote Message

We were very wounded after last Saturday (losing to Larne). We knew that we didn't do ourselves justice, we bounced back extremely well on Tuesday and we knew that we'd have to be on top of our game tonight. Every single one of us looked like wounded animals, we were very hungry and had fire in the belly.

He'll be 35 next month, but he certainly didn't show it tonight. Another colossal performance in the Blues' engine room.

  7. Healy gets a 'buzz' from being 'written off'published at 21:58 British Summer Time 21 May 2021

    Larne 1-2 Linfield

    Quote Message

I just thought we were better than them tonight, better all over. If a couple of decisions went our way, we would have won more comfortably. Credit to these players because they get written off, myself as a manager, we get written off but I actually enjoy it. I get a buzz off it in a sad way at times. But I'm so immensely proud of the players, the way they approached the game, played the game and won the game.

  8. Linfield 'will not lose focus'published at 21:53 British Summer Time 21 May 2021

    Larne 1-2 Linfield

    Quote Message

They are one point away from the league title, and let me guarantee you this: There'll be no losing of focus, absolutely none. It's ridiculous how there's turning points in the season, and I would suggest that defeat by Larne was very much instrumental in reminding them of the mindset they should have. To Linfield's credit any time they've been beaten this year they haven't been beaten a second time. Every defeat they have had, they have used to fuel their desire, enthusiasm and commitment. And this week has just epitomised that.

Harsh self-reflection from the man of the match!

    Quote Message

We were brilliant. Larne are a very good side. I thought we thoroughly deserved it the goal at the end was a bit of a sickener but we did enough. You miss (the fans), you miss the stick as well, bring it on! It feels good, I could have had a hat-trick so I'm a wee bit disappointed but I'll take it. I don't think (i'll be at Linfield next season), my family issues have been sorted and I want to give full-time football a go.

  13. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 21 May 2021

    Larne 1-2 Linfield

Linfield have won the Irish Cup!

First-half strikes from Shayne Lavery and Joel Cooper lift the Blues to a deserved 2-1 win and their record-extending 44th triumph in this competition.

David Healy's side were far superior from the outset. Undoubtedly fired up with their fans roaring them on, Linfield swarmed Larne from the first whistle, got the early goal through Lavery and were never really troubled from there.

Man of the match Cooper gave them a cushion going into the break, and while Larne boss Tiernan Lynch introduced David McDaid and Johnny McMurray, the Linfield defence stood firm until Jeff Hughes' injury-time consolation for the Invermen.

While Lavery and Cooper defended from the front in tireless fashion, Jamie Mulgrew and Cameron Palmer were also outstanding.

Larne simply didn't have enough on the night.

Linfield's mission is 50% complete. With the Irish Cup wrapped up, their focus will quickly switch to defending their league title, which they can do with a point against Coleraine on Tuesday.

Jeff Hughes pulls one back! Fuad Sule's speculative effort pings around in the box and the Larne skipper slots the ball past Chris Johns.

A quick look over to the linesman, whose flag stays down.

Jeff Hughes isn't giving this up yet. His left-footed drive requires a block from Jimmy Callacher, but it's a poor delivery and Linfield regain possession as we enter three minutes of additional time.

This, as we tick into the 87th minute, is tough to argue with.

Linfield have been excellent tonight and the cup is almost in their hands.

    Larne 0-2 Linfield

That was the chance to wrap it up.

Cooper, who's been unplayable for most of the night, beats Josh Robinson but waits far too long before attempting the square ball to Manzinga.

Larne bundle it behind for a corner, but this time it's Mitchell's ball.

  18. Postpublished at 21:22 British Summer Time 21 May 2021

    Larne 0-2 Linfield

Cooper fancies his chances against Albert Watson. He beats him, too, but he can't quite get the better of Mitchell, who charges down the forward's shot.

From Millar's corner, Callacher heads over when he really should be hitting the target.

    Larne 0-2 Linfield

Shayne Lavery's night is done, and what a night it's been for Linfield's leading scorer.

He goes off to a deserved standing ovation, a sight which has sadly been largely absent throughout this season.

    Christy Manzinga enters the fray.
