    FT: Netherlands 2-2 Scotland

Sunday's friendly opponents Luxembourg lost 1-0 in Norway this evening and have turned in some decent results of late, including an away win against the Republic of Ireland, so they will be no pushovers.

That one is a 17:00 BST kick-off and we'll have all of the action covered.

After that, it's on to the Euros!

    Good night.

Scotland head coach Clarke goes on to praise the spirit and mentality of his players following a positive performance.

"I knew we were in good shape," he says. "The mood is good within the squad. We expected a tough game, that was what we got. I feel we are improving as a team and getting better."

On David Turnbull's debut: "He did lots of good things and one or two things we can discuss for him to improve. There were many good performances tonight. The senior players are very, very important for us as well."

On Kevin Nisbet: "When you’re a striker, you want to score goals. I wasn’t surprised because Kevin told me in the press this week if he got a chance to play he would score. It’s nice he lived up to his words in the press."

On the missing players: "They will all train tomorrow. We’ll take it a day at a time. The only one that won’t train is John Fleck. We’ll give John a couple days. He hasn’t returned any negative tests as of yet."

So, who is in that team for the Euros opener against Czech Republic?

All being well, Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney, John McGinn and Scott McTominay are nailed on starters.

It's a toss up between Craig Gordon and David Marshall in goals.

Stephen O'Donnell probably gets the nod at right wing-back and Liam Cooper and Jack Hendry made strong cases this evening to partner Tierney in central defence.

What about Che Adams? Does the Southampton forward come in for the big game at Hampden and would that be in place of main striker Lyndon Dykes or the deeper lying Ryan Christie?

That leaves a couple of midfield places and it would take a brave man to leave Stuart Armstrong out after a dynamic display against the Dutch, while James Forrest was lively in the first half tonight and Callum McGregor is a quality regular in the engine room.

Sleepless nights indeed for Mr Clarke...

  4. 'I want to have difficult decisions'published at 22:20 British Summer Time 2 June 2021

    FT: Netherlands 2-2 Scotland

"We'd have liked to have won the game," says Scotland head coach Steve Clarke. "We feel like the referee took it away from us with a soft free kick.

"We can overlook that. The performance was good. It was a good night for us. We've got a good squad. There's good balance and good options. We do a lot of work on the training ground that's similar.

"The right centre-back will know what the next is going to do. Everyone knows their job and their role within the team. The boys that came in know the role and know their jobs.

"You learn to go one day at a time. Good performances from all the players tonight gives me more problems or decisions as the head coach. That's what we want. I want to have difficult decisions. I want to have sleepless nights. Ultimately, I want to select the right team for the start of the tournament."

Guys have put their hands up here. I want more from Christie, you want more from McGregor. There's interesting players to come in. It's very, very healthy. We might be getting carried away here but Steve Clarke won't be

I wouldn't put Robertson or Tierney on the field on Sunday. I'd protect them. If someone like that gets an injury in the last warm-up game you'd be kicking yourself

The six being left behind obviously isn't a good thing, but it's raised some interesting topics. That whole squad tonight must be feeling really good about themselves. It's fascinating. Has Nisbet overtaken Dykes?

  9. Depay at the double for Dutchpublished at 21:59 British Summer Time 2 June 2021

    FT: Netherlands 2-2 Scotland

What about the Netherlands? They didn't look too clever knocking the ball around at the back in the first half and big striker Wout Weghorst doesn't look like the answer.

But Memphis Depay, who scored both of their goals, is a class act and they did remove midfield double act Georginio Wijnaldum and Frenkie de Jong after just half an hour, so they will be confident of having more in the tank come tournament time.

Jack Hendry and Liam Cooper were both excellent this evening. Are they now in pole position to partner Kieran Tierney in a back three once the Euros get started?

Grant Hanley will be hoping to get a chance to show what he can do in Sunday's friendly in Luxembourg after being one of the unfortunate ones left behind in Spain today as a Covid precaution.

And what about Craig Gordon? Could he have done better with that late free-kick? The Hearts keeper did make one great stop just before that.

It's a minor shame they conceded that late goal. It was never a free-kick. Two brilliant finishes from Depay, though. Armstrong was terrific. He is a big winner from tonight along with Hendry and Cooper. It's really shaken things up

Scotland were a tad unfortunate not to see out the win but the squad will be heartened after going toe-to-toe with one of Europe's traditional heavyweights, missing some key players.

Remember, guys like John McGinn, Scott McTominay and Che Adams were not involved.
