Gilmour is a class player but very inexperienced and going up against a confident side. Why didn't Steve Clarke bring him on against the Czechs? Now now he's in from the start at Wembley - I'm not sure I understand that. I'm not sure I understand the selection of O'Donnell either. His confidence was shot to pieces after the Czech game.

The Scots are out to warm up ahead of this crucial contest. The DJ is ramping up the tunes too but the crowd remains pretty sparse at the moment. Mind you, in this cavernous stadium, it'll still look sparse once the 21,500 fans are all inside.

While this is the 115th fixture between the two old rivals, it is the 33rd meeting at Wembley.

Scotland have won nine of their previous visits to this famous stadium.

None of those 32 encounters have ended goalless by the way.

The most important thing is Kieran Tierney coming back in. The back three is very strong.

They're going to try and play against England. It could be really positive. Steve Clarke perhaps thinks we need to have a good go at this.

I've seen a few pundits saying there's no pressure on Scotland, but I'm not so sure about that.

Lose this one and it's going to be very, very difficult to progress beyond the group stage.

A couple of third-place teams made it through on three points in 2016 but then you have to factor in goal difference. With teams like Finland and Slovakia picking up unexpected wins, that route looks tough.

    England v Scotland (20:00)

Monday's defeat by the Czech Republic was bitterly disappointing for Scotland.

The anticipation, the build-up, the excitement, everyone was saying that game was a must-win and we couldn't lose it - but we did lose it.

It is going to be very difficult to pick ourselves up and get something against England, but this team are capable of it.

Scotland have been written off before and we have come back. I think we have got to remember how we got here, we were hard to beat, we were resilient.

We have to get behind the team because we have got good enough players, and we have got a little bit of character about us. Now it is about going there and proving it.

  14. 'We have always been the underdog'published at 18:59 British Summer Time 18 June 2021

    England v Scotland (20:00 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Scotland midfielder Erin Cuthbert speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Being the underdog can play in your favour if you have the level of mental toughness that Steve Clarke has built up in the squad.

"It’s a game against the Auld Enemy. Everything goes out the window, form goes out the window. It’s who performs best on the day and who wants it.

"As a Scotland player you know what it means to be the underdog. We have got five million people, England have got 60-odd million people. We have always been the underdog, or little brother, so Friday is a chance to put that right.

"I’m expecting a bit of high energy. The first 10 minutes of the Czech Republic game we started really positively and I’m expecting no different.

"We cant sit back for the entire 90 minutes, it’s not sustainable. With the players England have got they will break us down eventually. Defensively we need to be robust but we need to take the game to England a bit."

It's just finished at Hampden, with Croatia coming back to earn a 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic.

That nudges the Czechs closer to qualification on four points.

Not great for Scotland, but not too bad either. We'll have a clearer picture after tonight's game at Wembley.

England pretty much brushed Croatia aside in their opener, although they only had a Raheem Sterling goal to show for their dominance at a sweltering Wembley last Sunday.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was under no pressure at all in that game.

    Quote Message

The manager had to make changes. He's gone for the young, explosive talent in Gilmour and England maybe weren't expecting that. For me, the two strikers are the important aspect. He's right to play both and try to test the English defence. A good, positive line-up from Steve Clarke.

  20. Scots squad take the fieldpublished at 18:45 British Summer Time 18 June 2021

    England v Scotland (20:00)

    Alasdair Lamont
    BBC Sport Scotland at Wembley

The Scotland squad, in their natty white trainers, stroll onto the Wembley turf. What a night for Billy Gilmour. Just turned 20, a Champions League medal in his pocket, recently given his first Scotland cap and now here he is, starting in our biggest game in 23 years. But it's a big occasion for all of these players, most of whom will be playing at Wembley for the first time.
