Speaking of Ronald Koeman and Barcelona, it's been reported that Argentina forward Lionel Messi remains in advanced talks with the Spanish club about a new contract.

  2. 'It’s time for Dutch to be champions again, then '88 is over'published at 11:53 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

Netherlands v Czech Republic (Sun, 17:00 BST)

Finally from Erwin Koeman, he isn't just a former Netherlands international, he was a member of the squad that won Euro 88, the national team's only major honour.

"Every year, people still talk to me about '88, especially now during this tournament," he said. "On television, radio, the papers - they are writing about '88. So if you win this tournament, it is for life, and that’s very nice. Everybody will remember what happened.

"I think that the most important thing is that you act like a team. You have individual players who can score, but you go out as a team. Everybody, including the substitutes, is together. If you have some players that are not, that’s a problem."

Whoever wins in Budapest will face either Wales or Denmark in Baku next and Koeman was asked how far the Dutch can go.

"There is more confidence, not just for the players but also the fans because normally, we would get Portugal or France or Germany, but it is not one of those teams that we will face in the quarter-final," he said.

"On paper now, a lot of people think it’s two easy games, but that is not what football’s like. They have to fight, but this way to the final, I think it’s open.

"I think it’s time now for 2021 to be the champion, then '88 is over. But for the moment, we are still a team who won the only prize with the Netherlands."

  3. Could Johan Cruyff Arena be a Welsh home from home?published at 11:43 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    Wales v Denmark (17:00 BST)

Staying in the Netherlands, and it's a little known fact that the Johan Cruyff Arena was a rough template for the design of Wales' Principality Stadium.

When the ground with a roof was built in Cardiff,, external Europe's only roofed stadium at that time was the one the Welsh football team are playing in today in Amsterdam.

Wales have played many memorable games at the Principality Stadium, although the national team currently mostly use the Cardiff City Stadium.

  4. Malen, Depay and Wijnaldum are key for the Dutchpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

Netherlands v Czech Republic (Sun, 17:00 BST)

Netherlands coach Frank de Boer has switched from 4-3-3 to three at the back and they have a 100% record so far, with former Premier League players Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay scoring five goals between them.

“Maybe we like to play more that system with another striker, Donyell Malen from PSV Eindhoven, and I think it was more convenient for us.," former international Erwin Koeman told the BBC.

"De Boer will probably stick with this and maybe we can play even more better football. But they can play 5-3-2 or 4-3-3, that’s no problem for this kind of players.

“Depay and Wijnaldum are so important. They are a good couple. What I saw in the second half against North Macedonia with Malen, they are used to playing together. Depay also played in Eindhoven. Malen, Depay and Wijnaldum are three very good players. Wijnaldum, you know him from Liverpool, is a box-to-box midfield player and he can make a goal. Depay can make a goal. Malen is very fast. If I see this, I’m confident.”

  5. Koeman hopes for semi-finals at least for the Dutchpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

Netherlands v Czech Republic (Sun, 17:00 BST)

The Netherlands play the Czech Republic in Budapest on Sunday looking to build on their momentum after winning all three games in Group C.

And former international Erwin Koeman, brother of current Barcelona boss Ronald, has told the BBC he does not see the Dutch as serious contenders to win Euro 2020.

"If you win three times that’s nice, but I think it is normal," he said. "We expected that we would win the three games so for Holland it starts now, this Sunday. I think it will be a little more excitement because you know that if you win, you go on. If you lose, you go home.

"Holland is one of the favourites but if you compare us with Belgium or France, Italy, even England - I expect a lot from them. There are a lot of contenders who can win this tournament.

"But I think we are growing a little bit in the tournament. That’s a good thing. The Germans always do that. I hope that we can do that and go on maybe to the semi-finals.”

Croatia v Spain (Mon, 17:00 BST)

ICYMI... Spain striker Alvaro Morata has told Spanish radio that he and his family have been abused during Euro 2020.

The 28-year-old Juventus player said he had received abuse on social media. And he added that his wife and children were shouted at in the Spanish city of Seville.

"People have been saying 'I hope your children die'. I'd like people to put themselves in my shoes and think what it's like to get threats to my family," he told the Cadena Cope station.

"My wife and children have come to the stadium in Seville with Morata on the back of their shirts and people have been shouting at them.

"It's complicated. I understand people booing me for missing chances but there's a limit."

    Italy v Austria (20:00 BST)

    Dafydd Pritchard
    BBC Sport Wales in Amsterdam

As Italy saw out the closing moments of their 1-0 win over Wales, the home crowd at Rome's Stadio Olimpico started singing Notti Magiche, the song of the 1990 World Cup, the last major tournament to be played in the country.

It was a nod to a gilded past and, at the same time, a celebration of the present and a glittering future.

This was Italy's third win from three group matches at Euro 2020, an 11th successive victory - scoring 32 goals, conceding none in the process - and their 30th fixture without defeat, equalling their national record.

Next for the Azzurri is a second-round match against Austria on Saturday, and they travel to Wembley a team reborn.

  11. Rodon 'can't wait' for Amsterdam challengepublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    Wales v Denmark (17:00 BST)

Whereas Denmark have had the luxury of playing all their group matches at home, Wales have taken the long road to the last 16.

They travelled thousands of miles to Azerbaijan for their first two group games before facing Italy in Rome. Having silenced more than 30,000 Turkey fans to win in Baku, Wales want to do the same to those supporting Denmark on Saturday.

"We've been everywhere and Amsterdam will be another challenge," says Tottenham centre-back Joe Rodon.

"It's something to be excited for. Playing Turkey was a challenge we loved and winning was a great feeling. We can't wait."

In Wales, we call it a cwtch - it's a Welsh hug basically.

Unfortunately, if Ramsey rifles one in against Denmark or Bale bangs in a belter... We'll have to show some restraint!

Check out the Covid rules in Wales if you're planning a cheeky trip to your local for the game later.

Richard: GAME DAY! We need to resist the house-of-fire start and keep Denmark quiet for 20 minutes. Play our way into the game. The longer we're in it, the better chance we have. One goal could win it. We better make sure it's our goal, then.

    Dafydd Pritchard
    BBC Sport Wales in Amsterdam

The "gloves are off" for Wales as they prepare to face Denmark in their Euro 2020 last-16 tie in Amsterdam.

Denmark are favourites and have most neutrals' support having been inspired by midfielder Christian Eriksen and his recovery from a cardiac arrest.

But Wales have history on their minds, having reached the knockout stages for a third time in three major finals.

"We are ready for a battle because it is going to be a battle," said interim manager Robert Page.

"It's all out now. The gloves are off. We are in the knockout stages... We are fully ready for it."

    Wales v Denmark (17:00 BST)

    BBC Radio Wales

The game may not kick off in Amsterdam until 17:00 BST but that hasn't stopped Welsh fans starting early.

In Wales, it's what we call a Mike Rayer... it's our version of cockney rhyming slang. You've probably guessed what it is... Yes, an all-dayer!

"I've got a good feeling about this today", says Paul Jones, who has already got his table at the Turf pub in Wrexham.

"We've an excellent chance with a wonderful team spirit and a couple of superstars.

"The atmosphere is brilliant here on a matchday. It gets a bit lively but we'll have to remember there are restrictions and you can't be jumping all over the place. If Wales score today, the roof will be blown off."

It's bookings only at the Turf today due to Covid restrictions and bar owner Wayne Jones says he could've sold double the amount of tickets.

"We're all nervous, anxious and excited," said Wayne. "But after the 15 months we've all had, it's nice to see people laughing, smiling and supporting our country.

"We're a passionate little nation so to be able to come together and have a few beers and mingle safely is brilliant."

  19. 'They might not get many chances, but they have quality to make one count'published at 09:56 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    Wales v Denmark (17:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Both sides will think they can win this, and I am expecting a really tight game. When I think about who will make the difference, though, I would argue that Wales have got two big players in Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, and their support act is quite good as well, especially when it comes to soaking up pressure.

Wales have faced more shots in their three games so far - 59 - than any other side in the last 16. In fact, only Turkey, with 63, have faced more in the whole tournament.

Denmark are at the other end of the scale, having faced only 13 shots in their three matches - only Italy and Spain (with 12 apiece) have faced fewer. The Danes have conceded more goals than Wales, though - four to two.

Denmark will have spells when they are in the ascendancy on Saturday, I am sure, but Rob Page's side have already shown they can hang on in games.

And, while Wales might not create many chances, they have got the quality to make one of them count. I'm not sure me picking Wales to win will make their fans too happy, though. I've been wrong about them so far, after all.

    Lawro's prediction: 1-0.
