  1. 'That's why we brought Ings in'published at 17:17 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    FT: Aston Villa 2-0 Newcastle

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith: "Certainly am (happy) in front of our own fans who have waited a long time to get back. An OK performance but a result is what we needed.

"We had to deal with balls in behind with their pace but a great finish from Danny Ings and a set-piece routine we worked on in pre-season. That is what we brought Ings in for. Anwar El Ghazi is a very good penalty taker.

"You just have to manage the times, we have got used to enough stoppages with short pre-seasons but we have to get on with it and manager it the best we can.

"Hopefully the better performances will come but it was important to get off the mark today."

    Brighton v Watford (17:30 BST)

    Watford

Xisco Munoz tells Sky Sports the importance of another strong performance after Watford's opening-day win: "It was a very good start with the first three points. Today we have an amazing challenge so we will see what happens.

"The most important thing today is the points, but it's important the team has the same attitude as the last game. Our focus is in our style, in our high intensity. I want to feel the same that I felt last week because it was a perfect performance."

On Imran Louza making the starting XI: "Louza has a big quality with the ball. I think he wants to show everyone he has the capacity to play in the Premier League so today he can bring very good things to our team."

  6. 'It's all set for a good game'published at 17:06 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Brighton v Watford (17:30 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter tells Sky Sports: "Hopefully players will respond positively (to fans being back). It looks like it's going to be a fantastic evening. It's great to see everyone back here, it's what we've been waiting for and I think it's going to be an interesting and entertaining game and we'll try and get three points.

"We try and build on what we did last week. We're always looking to improve and no game is straightforward in the Premier League. Watford are in a good moment with promotion and winning the opening game so it's all set for a good game".

On Lallana and Mac Allister starting for Mwepu and Alzate: "Both did well when they came on. A bit unlucky for the guys that came out but the guys that came in can help us and I'm pretty sure we'll need the subs at the end of the game as well."

On last season's disappointing goal tally: "There's no magic solution. It's just work, being consistent, supporting the players and trying to develop as a team. The hardest thing to do in football is score. It's a cliche but it's true."

  13. CLOSE!published at 16:54 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Leeds 2-2 Everton

Oooh! So close for Everton, and it would have been the most fortunate of winners.

Abdoulaye Doucoure lines up a speculative effort and drags it along the ground but it hits defender Liam Cooper and deflects agonisingly wide of the post, with goalkeeper llan Meslier going the other way.

  14. 'City are incredibly dangerous this season'published at 16:54 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Man City 5-0 Norwich

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm not sure about Norwich yet but I don't want to judge them on this game. City playing like that without Kevin de Bruyne and without a possible striker, this could be a scary season for them.

If they get Harry Kane on top of what they already have here, they are incredible dangerous this season.

    Leeds 2-2 Everton

Everton have twice led at Elland Road. Seamus Coleman shooting from 25 yards on his left foot probably isn't going to put them ahead for a third time... the right-back's effort trickles wide.

Andros Townsend is a better bet but his strike is well saved by Illan Meslier moments later.
