It doesn't matter about Mark Noble's legendary status and him taking the penalty. It is about being a penalty specialist.

We have seen it in tournaments before, some people are just trained to be cool and calm in this situation. It is irrelevant because it is a skill acquisition.

He could have played 90 minutes, but that moment is about one skill, one execution. Unfortunately for Mark Noble, he got it wrong and people will say someone who was on longer should have taken it.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel speaking to Sky Sports about Spurs' starting XI: "We were not sure (how they would line up) because they had some injury problems but they have a huge connection on the field in Son Heung-min and Harry Kane which is a huge threat and we need to take care of it."

On keeping the momentum going: "It's always about earning your momentum and creating results but it's hard work behind it and you want to keep on going. This is the mindset today. To keep the momentum going is one of the most difficult things. We hope to have a good performance to be able to win."

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former England defender and Tottenham captain Gary Mabbutt speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Jimmy [Greaves] was a legend at Spurs but also a legend at Chelsea and as far as English football is concerned, he's one of the greatest scorers of all time in the English game.

"I think people talk about legends sometimes very loosely - with Jimmy, I think you can use that word consistently because he was that wherever he played. His sublime goalscoring ability, his finishing and the character that he was.

"It's a very, very sad day and it's quite poignant the fact that Chelsea are playing Spurs this afternoon and I'm sure that it'll be a very sad Spurs stadium today."

Looking at the Manchester United players and staff, you feel this could be a massive defining moment for them. They have come here and dug out a massive result.

I wonder if this will be a point that they look at later in the season as a turning point for them.

Spurs captain Harry Kane speaking to Sky Sports on the death of Jimmy Greaves: "First and foremost our condolences to Jimmy's family and close friends. It's a sad one but hopefully a day we can celebrate. He played for Tottenham and Chelsea and hopefully we put in a great performance in his honour.

"Jimmy was an incredible player and goalscorer and a legend for club and country.

"It's frightening really how good a player he was. For someone like me to look at his numbers and one day go on to break those numbers would be incredible. I got to meet him back in 2017 and like I say it's just a celebration of him today."

  17. 'England's greatest goalscorer'published at 16:15 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

    John Murray
    BBC football correspondent

Jimmy Greaves might well be the greatest goalscorer English football has ever produced.

His 44 international goals came in only 57 matches. He surely would have played in England's 1966 World Cup final triumph, had it not been for an injury in the group stages.

Jimmy Greaves is fondly remembered at Chelsea and Tottenham, and was briefly at AC Milan and West Ham. He still holds the record for the most goals in the English top flight with 357.

In later life, he overcame alcoholism to become a popular TV personality, well known for his double act with fellow former player Ian St John.

If Lingard doesn't score that, everyone would be attacking OGS for poor decision making.

For all the doomsayers and Ole Out brigade, he is presiding over the longest ever unbeaten run of away matches in Premier League history. That doesn't happen to a hopeless or even a lucky manager. Give him more credit; he has earned it.

    Doug, Leyland

Re Lewis: I disagree! I'm far more hopeful under Ole than I ever was under Mourinho. We play far better football now than we used to, it just needs to be consistently over 90 minutes. Ole has to find a way to make that happen. If we challenge for trophies it's a good season. If we're nowhere near, then I think he could be in trouble.
