  3. 'Definitely not the worse side'published at 17:48 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    FT: Everton 2-0 Norwich

    Norwich City

Norwich manager Daniel Farke to Match of the Day: "There are key points in the game and today there were four. The first was their goal and the VAR decision. The second was Ben Gibson missing a chance at 1-0 down. The third was Lucas Digne not being given a second yellow card and the fourth was unnecessarily losing the ball for their second goal. Sadly we were on the wrong end of the key moments.

"We were compact from the first to the last second. We needed 20 minutes to get into the game and be brave in possession. But then we dominated the game a lot in the second half. We were definitely not the worse side today. It's not a situation where we will dance on the table, but it’s not a situation where we wave the white flag either."

On Everton's penalty: "You can criticise my player for being naive but we were told at the start of the season that if a player uses a situation like that to go down it's not a penalty anymore. The referee felt this in the game, that's why he gave the goal-kick, so it's difficult to understand why it was given.

On staying up: "You don't expect to win points against Manchester City and Liverpool but the other four defeats affect self-confidence, especially with a young group and their mood. But they have to roll their sleeves up and work hard.

"You don't expect a newly-promoted side to win many points away from home. But you have to win against sides who will finish in the bottom half of the table, like Watford last week. So we'll keep going and try to have a good season."

    FT: Watford 1-1 Newcastle

    Watford

Watford boss Xisco Munoz to BBC Match of the Day: "I think today, our fans were great. They were amazing. The second half was more in our level; we controlled the game and had more chances. I'm disappointed about the late goal; in the last 10 minutes we gave them a big chance and we need to learn quickly about this."

  9. 'It was really tough'published at 17:40 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    FT: Leeds 1-2 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes tells Match of the Day: "It was a really tough game. Leeds were what you expect. We got there in the end which was important for us.

"I thought we played much better in the second half and deserved it. I felt we were capable of scoring but when we went 1-0 down I was concerned you're always liable to concede against Leeds because of the way they play."

On if he would have expected anyone other than Antonio to pop up with a 90th minute winner: "I wouldn't say that with the way he played today but it's what centre forwards do. They will tell you they can mis-control it and it can bobble off you're leg but if you're there to score the winner in the 90th minute that's what makes you special."

  13. Everton's best is yet to come - Benitezpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    FT: Everton 2-0 Norwich

    Everton

Rafael Benitez on Everton winning their first three home games for first time since 1989-90: "They told me before, I didn't know, so I'm really pleased with that. Hopefully we can carry on and emulate what the team did last year, not just winning at home but away also. So hopefully we can continue winning against Manchester United [next week]."

On Everton's injuries: "The rest of the players have to work even harder and I'm really happy to see them scoring goals, giving assists and working so hard. Now we have to relax, recover, and be ready mentally and physically for the next game, but it's important for us to bring back those players as soon as possible."

On whether he expected this start: "Watching them in training, I expected that we could do well, but in the Premier League you never know. I'm a bit surprised but I'm quite happy and I think that we will get better."

  20. 'Our performance was terrific'published at 17:29 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    FT: Watford 1-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The game should have been put out of sight but you can't come here and dominate the way we did and create the chances we had and miss them. We nearly got punished for it at the end, which would have been totally unjust in my opinion. Our performance was terrific, we've done okay of late and haven't managed to get that first win."

On finishing: "We were sloppy on too many occasions. The hardest part of the game is to score a goal, and that is a bit of mentality; you've got to go cold in front of goal."

On the performance: "We've played very well and should have come here and won the game comprehensively."
