    Juventus 0-0 Chelsea

Juan Cuadrado is fouled by Hakim Ziyech for the first foul of the game.

Cuadrado is one of those many players who Chelsea have signed, given a handful of games to and then sold.

A proper churn factor - but it does work for them.

OK, so who takes the penalty if Man Utd are awarded one tonight?

Bruno Fernandes missed his last-minute penalty against Aston Villa on Saturday but he had previously scored 42 of his last 45 efforts from the spot.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the prime candidate to take over. He has converted 139 of 167 penalties over his career (not including shootouts). That includes 17 out of 20 in his first spell at United.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel does not know how many of his players are vaccinated against Covid-19 - and says it is not his place to ask people to get the vaccine.

Key midfielder N'Golo Kante is isolating for 10 days after testing positive.

"We are a reflection of society, the players are adults and they have a free choice," Tuchel said.

"We should accept it. This is more or less all I can say. I know the situation is far from over. It makes you very aware it is not over."

When asked if players should lead by example and get the vaccine, Tuchel said: "Do I have the right to say it? I'm not so sure.

"It is a serious question, vaccinations seems to be a proper protection - I am vaccinated but I don't see myself in the position to speak out on recommendations."

  9. 'I'm not afraid of Manchester United'published at 19:53 British Summer Time 29 September 2021

Man Utd v Villarreal (20:00 BST)

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could probably do with allies right now and he has one in his opposite number tonight.

Unai Emery knows only too well how tough it can be when times are hard at a big English club from his time spent as Arsenal boss.

He had this to say about Solskjaer ahead of tonight's game...

"I’ve lived that when I was in Arsenal. Solskjaer has a very great endorsement and respect. Last year, he managed to enter the Champions League and reached the final of the Europa League.

"This year, he has many challenges ahead and it is true that he has had some negative results, but I do not think that an intelligent direction will change their option about him [because of] those results.

"I’m not afraid of Manchester United. We respect them. Okay, respect is important. If you lose respect you may lose.

"Manchester United is the clear favourite. It was also the favourite in the final. We played a competitive match but they also had the options. They lost against Young Boys, it was the favourite versus the less favourite but there was a surprise. If you lose respect the other team may take advantage of that.

"Tomorrow, Manchester will be the best Manchester, they have to prove their power. What Solskjaer has done for Manchester United as a player and a coach, we have to respect them., they are the favourites."

    Juventus v Chelsea (20:00 BST)

Former England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chelsea have got an unbelievable squad. It’s not just the players who are playing, it’s the ones on the bench as well. They’ve got strength in depth. They’ll be challenging on all fronts.

You can create chances against them, but from the back all the way to the front they’ve got goals in them. They have players who can create magic out of nothing.

  11. 'Players have their chance now'published at 19:51 British Summer Time 29 September 2021

Man Utd v Villarreal (20:00 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking to BT Sport: "Alex [Telles] and Diogo [Dalot] have been waiting for a chance and they've got it now. We have Victor [Lindelof] and Raphael [Varane] as well so that back four should be all right. Luke [Shaw] has not trained since Saturday so there was no chance. We will just have to see how long it takes.

"Raphael has been good since he got here. He has taken to the group, been authoritative and calm and I am sure we will see that again tonight.

"Jadon [Sancho] has had his chances. We are building him up. Last game against Young Boys there was a sending off and he had to come off early. He is ready.

"They are technically very good and will build from the back. They'll be patient defending and be inventive from set-pieces."

    Thomas TuchelImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel does not think his side are favourites to win the Champions League, despite being the holders.

The Blues lost 1-0 to Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday, their first defeat of the season.

"Maybe there is expectation," said Tuchel. "We came from a role that wasn't favourites last season and we got better with every match and now we are seen as a real contender.

"Now it is easy to make us the favourites. We have the experience that means there is a higher value and motivation to play against us. We have to accept this. We are not favourites for this title."

Thomas Tuchel will have been disappointed not to get the result [against Manchester City on Saturday].

When you want to be one of the best managers there is, you’re going to blame yourself and not accept defeat. That’s what makes him a really great manager. I was a bit sceptical at first when he first came in, but what he’s done at the football club has been immense.

Bayern Munich have won their last eight games, scoring 40 goals in the process. That included a 3-0 win at Barcelona in their Champions League opener.

They are yet to lose under new boss Julian Nagelsmann.

"Bayern are a real machine. They achieve great results and are programmed to win," said Dynamo boss Mircea Lucescu.

"They are the strongest team in this Champions League campaign.

"It's a very balanced team, very strong physically, with quality and fast players."

  16. 'Easiest game in weeks'published at 19:45 British Summer Time 29 September 2021

    Juventus v Chelsea (20:00 BST)

Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini says tonight is "is the easiest game we will play in recent weeks".

Malmo, Spezia and Sampdoria are the only teams Juve have beaten all season.

"These are great games because they're easy to prepare for, the tension is at its highest and everything is at the highest level," Chiellini said.

"We're playing our first home match in the Champions League against the European champions, who strengthened since winning it, so it will be a great match, as difficult as it will be stimulating.

"I'm sure we'll play well and that everyone around the club, us most of all, the coach, the fans want to have a great night."

  17. 'The pressure is a privilege'published at 19:42 British Summer Time 29 September 2021

Man Utd v Villarreal (20:00 BST)

Ole Gunnar SolskjaerImage source, Getty Images

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been in charge for seven of Manchester United's 54 Champions League defeats - or 13% of them. That's despite the fact that he has only managed the club through 11 games in the competition.

"You need 10 or 12 points to go through," said Solskjaer ahead of Wednesday's game. "If you have one or zero points from two games, you need four wins.

"It is a very important game. The focus is on three points and looking what we can do better from the Europa final.

"The pressure is a privilege. To work in this environment, you have to embrace that pressure.

"We're in a results business. We're here to win. I have been backed and clearly we've improved and expectations have improved, with the signings and better performances.

"The progress and the process has worked well. But I'm here to win - don't think twice about that."

  19. 'Pogba needs to play centrally'published at 19:39 British Summer Time 29 September 2021

Man Utd v Villarreal (20:00 BST)

    Ashley Young
Former England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

The Michael Carrick type has been missing for years. Don’t get me wrong – Fred and [Scott] McTominay are good players. I don’t think there’s a Michael Carrick around.

I think [United] are missing a trick in the centre of midfield. I think Paul [Pogba] needs to play there. At the weekend he was playing out towards the left, I don’t think that’s Paul’s best position. I think he wants to control play and he wants to dictate. He’s a player who can find passes, the way Carrick used to do.

Hopefully tonight the balls will be played into the front men, they can get up the pitch and keep Villarreal in their half.
