Patience is the key for City. They are under no immediate pressure to go forcing anything. They can take their time, see off the initial rush of enthusiasm from Real and try to pick their moment.

Even the slightest delay from City to a goal-kick is greeted with huge screams from the home fans. They're not going to tolerate any slowing of this game down.

Another sniff for Benzema!

Fede Valverde fires in a low cross that he hits first time but gets under to send over the bar.

Adam: Laporte starts it, pushes Modric and then collapses to the floor when he's pushed back - pathetic.

It's boiling over now!

Aymeric Laporte is holding his neck on the ground as players shove each other around him. The City centre-back has gone down very easily there.

It came shortly after a poor tackle from Casemiro on Kevin de Bruyne that got initial tempers up.

The brief melee earns Luka Modric and Laporte a yellow card.

It’s like the first round of a boxing match.

They are both just getting the jabs out and sizing the opponent up.

There are times to pull out a trick and times not to. Joao Cancelo gets it wrong with a flick to try and beat a man on the left. He is held off easily as Real clear.

Vinicius Junior has already been found a couple of times. Real clearly fancy him against Kyle Walker.

Bernardo Silva looks to get in at the other end but he is adjudged to have used an arm to control the ball.

Real Madrid have gone with the two pivots and they are trying to match Manchester City in that midfield area.

It is going to be difficult for Real Madrid at times to get a hold of the game.

First big chance! It goes to Karim Benzema too.

The offside flag takes the edge off this, but he had found space in the box to head over Dani Carvajal's cross.

Marking needs to be much better from City.

Phil Foden's delivery is headed back into the middle of the box from deep, towards Ruben Diaz, but the most important header is from a Real player to clear.

The first corner goes to City.

The boos and whistles reach a crescendo as City hold on to the ball at the back. These home fans are not here to tolerate anything but Real on the front foot.

Beth: I’m also a United fan and I’ve always supported the English teams in Europe. It’s like we all bully each other in our own school playground but when it comes to a rival school (Spain), I’m rooting for our own.

Josh Hammond: Controversial but as a united fan I would rather see Liverpool win over City. Yes the rivalry is stronger but at least they've not just seemingly bought their way to the top. Plus personally I prefer how Liverpool play. Madrid win this but lose the final.
