Among those Liverpool fans to arrive in Paris earlier were about 50 who took up vlogger Simon Wilson's offer of a £1 coach travel ticket.

Wilson said he set up the initiative because he thought travel fees were "pretty extortionate" but after setting off on Thursday and only arriving a few hours before the match, he admitted he "never thought" the trip would take as long as it did".

He said the original coach had to be replaced and the ferry at Dover had to be pushed back, which led to "some worried faces... but I always had faith, despite all the challenges we've had".

"I've never had so little sleep in all my life... but it was worth it," he said.

"Now we can soak up the atmosphere here before the game."

We all understand the way that Mo Salah will be feeling.

I think he said it [the 2018 final between the clubs] was the worst moment in his career. He wants to put that right, he has put that right by winning it the following year.

His direct opponent Sergio Ramos will not be playing but I think every Liverpool player will be completely motivated by the nature of the occasion but whatever motivates a group and an individual can only be a good thing.

It is just control and Liverpool players under Jurgen Klopp have always been pretty controlled.

Liverpool v Real Madrid (20:00 BST)

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

If I took a kicking or a beating, or somebody hurt me I absolutely 100% took it personal and could not wait for the next game to come around because whatever has happened I want to put it right.

And I want the incentive to put it right and it doesn't get any bigger than this incentive for Mohamed Salah.

He's had a bit of a quiet time of late and he has not been the Mohamed Salah we have seen since coming back from international duty but that is understandable. But what an occasion to put in a performance. What an occasion to go out and get revenge.

Revenge, I would absolutely use it as motivation.

I think it is pretty healthy that revenge word. When you are talking to elite athletes or elite footballers or any footballers, defeat is a hard word to take,

If you like using the word revenge then why not? Why not use it to get all the motivation you can get?

That's what you want. You are in the game to win things and win games. I was in it for all of those things and to score goals and Mo Salah is no different. I quite enjoy him saying that. I don't know why everyone is saying 'oh no, you shouldn't say that'.

He has the ability to go and poke the beast.

Liverpool's Champions League final against Real Madrid is not about revenge for the Spanish side's victory in 2018, says manager Jurgen Klopp.

Saturday's Paris showpiece is a repeat of the final four years ago in Kyiv, which Madrid won 3-1.

Forward Mohamed Salah, who went off injured in that match after a tussle with Sergio Ramos, has said Liverpool have a "score to settle".

"This was a harsh night for us - it was tough to take," said Klopp.

"But I don't believe in revenge or think revenge is a fantastic idea.

"I understand what Mo said - he wants to put it right. But in Germany we say you always meet twice in life.

"If we get the chance to win it this time it will be a great story, but it will not be because of what happened in 2018."

  10. 'Fans hunting down tickets'published at 18:33 British Summer Time 28 May 2022

Liverpool v Real Madrid (20:00 BST)

Jim Clarke, BBC North West Tonight in Paris: "Outside the stadium, we’ve seen scores of Liverpool fans hunting down tickets.

"Tickets touts have told us the going rate in £2,500 per person – most fans can’t afford that but the touts are still getting good business.

"The Cours de Vincennes free fan park dedicated for LFC supporters is expected to accommodate 45,000 people – 20,000 of whom have got tickets. But it’s expected that about 60,000 may gather so big screens are being set up further down the area.

"While the atmosphere has been of a loud party, there have been no reports of trouble or arrests so far.

"About 7,000 French police are on duty and officers have said that anyone wearing football club colours will be banned from the landmark Champs Elysees until after the final.

"Those who breach the rule could be fined 135 euros.

"French media report that this is the busiest tourism weekend in the capital for three years, following the breakout of the coronavirus pandemic.

"About 95% of accommodation has been booked up with the going rate for a 2-star hotel room at £600 a night."

Liverpool v Real Madrid (20:00 BST)

Former Real Madrid president Roman Calderon says he does not believe the team are worse than 2018... but thinks Liverpool are better.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I don’t think Real have moved backwards since last beating Liverpool in the Champions League final in 2018.

"Of course we’ve lost Cristiano Ronaldo, who was a very big asset for us. But I think Karim Benzema is in very good shape, and Vinicius has been a surprise the way he’s been playing. And of course Rodrygo.

"We have a good midfield, a good defence and a good goalkeeper. I don’t think Real are a weaker team than last time, but I think Liverpool have improved a lot in the last three or four years."
