Best chance of the game so far. It goes to Rennes.

They pick Leicester open, with Jeremy Doku dancing through before setting up Benjamin Bourigeaud. His effort (or maybe a cross) floats past the far post.

    Leicester were scrambling.

Harvey Barnes is key for Leicester. His trickery and driving runs can get the team up the field. For a moment it looks like he might be away, but Rennes rally and halt him.

Very different deal to what we have just seen between Sevilla and West Ham. Leicester really need a positive result here to take to France. It is on them to be on the front foot.

    As mentioned earlier....

Gaetan Laborde is someone Leicester will have to keep their eye on this evening.

The French forward has scored 19 goals so far this term (in all comps) and clearly knows where the goal is in this competition.

Rennes are no mugs. They currently sit fourth in Ligue 1, but are very much in the mix to finish second behind Paris Saint-Germain.

Five wins from seven games has left them just three points behind second-placed Nice.

And to underline the threat they pose the Foxes, they gave Tottenham a good old game earlier this season in the Europa League group stages, recording a 2-2 draw in France.

They come into this game off the back of four wins in five games - the only defeat a 1-0 loss to PSG. And in Gaetan Laborde they have an in-form striker with five Ligue 1 goals in his last seven games.

Much like West Ham, Leicester suffered a significant injury blow of their own at the weekend. Jamie Vardy is set to be out for "a few weeks" says manager Brendan Rodgers after the 35-year-old striker picked up a knee injury.

Vardy sustained the injury during Saturday's 1-0 win over Leeds.

The former England striker was making his first start of 2022, having been sidelined for more than two months with a hamstring issue.

"He got a knock to his knee, but hopefully in the next three to four weeks it responds OK," said Rodgers.

"He's going to be out for a few weeks, which is a shame."

Vardy is the Foxes' joint top scorer with 12 goals from 24 appearances this season.

    Leicester v Rennes (20:00 GMT)

Brendan Rodgers admits it’s been a “challenging season” but thinks his side are improving as they prepare to face Ligue 1 high-flyers Rennes in the Europa Conference League.

Leicester have won their past three games and, despite a frustrating injury to Jamie Vardy, Rodgers is optimistic about the final two months of the season.

“We want to get as high as we can in the league and go as far as we can in this competition,” he said.

“The performance level has definitely improved and we are back together as a team again.

“We’re showing that spirit and the desire to dig in, even if we’re not playing at our best.

“The game at the weekend [against Leeds] was a great example of the team coming together when we didn’t play our best football.”

Rodgers is expecting a tough encounter against Rennes, who are second behind Paris St-Germain in the French league for goals scored this season.

“If you’re going to go well in the competition, you’ll have to beat some good teams,” he said. “We’re confident we can cause them some problems.”

    Leicester v Rennes (20:00 GMT)

Leicester's 4-1 win over Randers in the Europa Conference League on 17 February was the first of four wins from five outings, the most of recent of which was a somewhat fortuitous victory over Leeds at the weekend.

This winning run has boosted their league standing, but still leaves them 12 points behind seventh-placed Tottenham Hotspur, making European football through the Premier League unlikely. Suddenly the inaugural Europa Conference League doesn't seem like such a bad thing.

West Ham will wonder what might have been had Nikola Vlasic scored that huge first-half chance.

But after conceding, it could have been an awful lot worse than 1-0. To tie is still alive, and set up for a superb second leg in London!
