    FT: West Ham 1-1 Lyon

West Ham have never progressed when failing to win the first leg of a major European knockout tie at home, being eliminated on all three previous occasions.

Time for the Hammers to write some history.

Watching the moment back that David Moyes is speaking about there, involving Jarrod Bowen, I think he has a point.

Bowen definitely got a shove in the back from Houssem Aouar near the Lyon box. Certainly more contact in that than between Cresswell and Dembele.

As galling as it is, this stuff happens in football, though. Sometimes for you, sometimes against.

  4. 'I'm not going to comment on the referee'published at 22:45 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    FT: West Ham 1-1 Lyon

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes, speaking to BT Sport: "Firstly, you need to look at the foul on Jarrod Bowen in the build-up [to the red card]. I hoped VAR would look at that as it is in the same phase of play. I'm certainly not going to comment about the referee. I will answer other questions but I am not going to bother with the referee tonight.

"We were really resilient in the second-half. We came in at the break knowing with 10 men it was a difficult job. We stuck at it and had one or two opportunities ourselves. Overall it was more of a backs-to-the-wall performance second-half but we are still in with a good shout.

"I don't know if the pressure is off because we want to qualify. Generally the players stuck at it tonight. We didn't play well and we can only play much better next week."

  6. ''I thought it was cheap'published at 22:34 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    FT: West Ham 1-1 Lyon

    West Ham United

West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen, speaking to BT Sport: "I thought it [the red card] was cheap, if I'm really honest. I only saw it in real time, I haven't seen it back. It looked like he [Dembele] was going away from goal and it is a tiny touch on the arm. The referee has made his decision and we had to think quickly with 10 men. I thought we did well and yes we've conceded a goal, but with the quality they have. It is all to play for next week.

"The manager said at half-time to keep our heads because we weren't happy with the decision obviously. It was a case of staying in the game. We did, went 1-0 up and it was then just about defending the lead. It was always going to be difficult. It is still all to play for.

"I was just trying to get in and around the box [for his goal]. Luckily it fell to me and got a nick off the defender and went in. To come back and get two goals is for the team, which is what I want to do. We weren't at our best but created chances. We step up another level next week and we will be dangerous."

    FT: Leicester 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

Leicester City have lost just one of their last 16 matches in European competition (W10 D5), keeping eight clean sheets in the process.

The Foxes have failed to score in European competition for the first time in nine games. The Foxes averaged 2.5 goals per game in their previous eight such fixtures, netting 20 in total.

  8. 'We lacked a bit of quality up front'published at 22:25 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    FT: Leicester 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

    Leicester City

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, speaking to BT Sport: "It's a good performance. There were not too many chances. PSV had an early one but apart from that I thought we defended strongly.

"There were not too many chances in the game. Maybe a bit more quality in the final third would have made it a bit easier for us. We just lacked that bit of quality up there. We just didn't have that extra final bit of quality to create that chance.

"There was no surprise in terms of PSV. They have good players and are a threat on the counter attack. Domestically PSV score a lot of goals home and away but we restricted them to not so much."

  9. 'West Ham were outstanding'published at 22:15 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

It was a good game, end to end, a proper quarter-final. I enjoyed it.

I think with 11 men, West Ham would probably have come out victorious.

But they did ever so well second half, they got the goal through Jarrod Bowen, defended well.

Lyon scored as good goal through Tanguy Ndombele but full credit to West Ham - I thought they were outstanding and we've got a great second leg to look forward to.

It has finished 1-1 between Frankfurt and Barcelona too. So both of the quarter-finals that will feed into one Europa League semi are still very much in the balance.

Rangers have gone down 1-0 to Sporting Braga, but have the chance to rectify that at Ibrox in a week.

    West Ham 1-1 Lyon

Not the night either of the English sides will have wanted.

But in the circumstances, West Ham will probably take the draw. They played half the game with 10 men after Aaron Cresswell's red card, but defended well to keep the visitors to just the equaliser after Jarrod Bowen's opener.

We go to France all square.

It's a good chance, it's just too high for Dembele.

Gusto has been brilliant down that right hand side, time after time he's put in good balls.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 90+6 mins

    West Ham 1-1 Lyon

Jarrod Bowen can't believe it. He has been booked for the softest of pushes on Emerson after the ball had gone out. Did he step on his heel too? If so, it was surely by accident. This referee is really out to make friends in these parts tonight.

    Chance!

Moussa Dembele is in space in the box, and is found by Malo Gusto's cross, but heads his effort over the bar.

Kurt Zouma gets lucky. He rises to head clear and misses, but Moussa Dembele can't bring the ball down off his chest to shoot before Zouma recovers to smash the ball clear.

  19. Postpublished at 21:56 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    FT: Leicester 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

Brendan Rodgers won't be too disappointed with this. His Leicester side have scored four goals away to Spartak Moscow and three away to Randers in Europe this season. Leicester will, however, have to be more clinical in Eindhoven next Thursday.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 90 mins
