The stretcher is out for him and the medical staff are just taking their time before putting him on to it I think.

  7. Will Adkins' Addicks challenge?published at 17:25 British Summer Time 7 August 2021

    Charlton v Sheff Wed (17: 30 BST)

Charlton haven't had the best of time over the past few years either.

However, Nigel Adkins, who had a season in charge of Sheffield Wednesday's cross-city rivals Sheffield United, has done well since taking over from Lee Bowyer in March and almost led them into the play-offs last season.

They've made striker Jayden Stockley's loan from Preston a permanent deal and also give a debut to former Wednesday man Sean Clare today.

Five minutes until kick-off at The Valley.

  8. Can new-look Owls bounce back?published at 17:20 British Summer Time 7 August 2021

    Charlton v Sheff Wed (17: 30 BST)

Sheffield Wednesday endured a torrid 2020-21 as they were relegated from the Championship.

The Owls started the season with a 12-point deduction, later reduced to six, and Garry Monk and Tony Pulis were both sacked before the turn of the year as chaos reigned behind the scenes at Hillsborough.

Darren Moore came in from Doncaster but he was unable to stop them from sliding back into League One after nine seasons in the second tier.

They've made 12 summer signings in a bid to make their stay at this level a brief one.

Burnley loanee Bailey Peacock-Farrell starts in goal and fellow new arrivals Jack Hunt, Dennis Adeniran and Lewis Wing are also in from the start.

Sheffield United host Birmingham City in the late kick off (20:00 BST on a Saturday?!) but first it's the other team from the Steel City under the spotlight.

Sheffield Wednesday visit Charlton in League One in a game between two teams who will be hoping to be challenging at the top end of the division this season.

It's all over at the Stadium of Light, where Ross Stewart's second-half goal has seen Sunderland win 2-1 against a Wigan side many are backing to do well this season.

Gwion Edwards had given the Latics the lead but Aiden McGeady levelled from the spot and the hosts were able to turn the game around.
