Niall Quinn: Interesting that all five games involve (reasonably) recent Premier League teams and a lot have had newish owners who promised ‘good times’. It’s tough out there.

Just for the record, this isn't 'the' Niall Quinn.

How realistic are Middlesbrough's promotion credentials this season?

Well, they'll probably come under another tough examination yet this evening when also unbeaten QPR travel to the Riverside.

Boro beat Bristol City at home on Saturday to leave boss Neil Warnock all smiles at full-time while they started with a gritty draw at Fulham on the opening weekend.

A win tonight could take them joint top in the early table.

QPR also come into this one with a win and a draw having been held by Millwall on the opening day and then coming away with victory at Hull on Saturday.

Can Mark Warburton get his new-look side a consecutive win on the road?

  3. Tigers and Rams look to bounce backpublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 18 August 2021

    Hull v Derby (19:45 BST)

If newly promoted Hull were on a high after their 4-1 opening-day triumph at Preston, then they were certainly brought back down to earth by a 3-0 home humbling by QPR on Saturday.

But they will still arguably come into this game more buoyant than Derby, who led into stoppage time at Peterborough last time out only to lose after conceding 91st and 100th-minute goals.

Wayne Rooney's side have since brought in former England centre-back Phil Jagielka and striker Sam Baldock and both make their debuts for the Rams from the start.

These are good times for Queens Park Rangers who enjoyed a settled summer and are enjoying the fruits of managerial continuity and a squad allowed time to develop with a fine start.

Their unbeaten run goes back to the end of last season and has continued with progress in the cup and four points from six in the Championship.

Rob Dickie has three goals in three, not bad going from a centre-half and although Charlie Austin is back, he has to make do with a spot on the bench.

The R's have won their past two on Teesside but have ex-Hoops boss Neil Warnock standing in their way. He's still fondly remembered by the supporters for that terrific 2010-11 team.

Tuesday evening saw seven fixtures in the Championship and no shortage of goals.

Fulham took the bragging rights in their London derby against Millwall, winning 2-1 at The Den courtesy of early goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic and teenager Fabio Carvalho (pictured).

Elsewhere, there were wins for Stoke at Swansea, Huddersfield at home against Preston, Luton at Barnsley, Coventry City at Blackpool while Bristol City won with the odd goal in five at Reading.

Cardiff City came from 2-0 down at Peterborough to draw 2-2 thanks to two late goals from Aden Flint.
